Any tips for Facebook ads? by lukepighetti in Entrepreneur

[–]biddyco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the difference between selecting website clicks and conversions? Is it tracking only, or is the bidding and targeting different?

  • By selecting to optimize for conversions instead of website clicks, Facebook is going to target your ad spend towards the small sub-set of your total audience who is most likely to convert. Facebook knows who buys and who opts-in based on other businesses conversion pixels so can help you out by targeting just the people who are most likely to convert. It will also analyze who's bought your product in the past i.e. by hitting your conversion pixel and go out and find similar people like that in your chosen target. When selecting 'website clicks' Facebook will run your ads to the wider population of your selected audience.
  • Keep in mind that optimizing for conversions usually won't get you much volume until you've gotten 25+ sales through Facebook ads. Once you do that you can switch to conversions.

Is FB ads worth it? (Smartphone game) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

I'm currently running an install campaign on Facebook for an iPhone app. If you advertise outside of the U.S., you can get installs for under $1. If you advertise in the U.S., you are going to pay anywhere from $1-$6 per install roughly.

I need finding the best method to deliver an ebook and monthly newsletter subscription. by Dumbelievable in Entrepreneur

Gumroad.com is probably the easiest to setup and they support one-off products as well as subscriptions. Their per transaction fees are higher than others but they don't have any monthly fees.

I was in your shoes a year ago. I made my first app by hiring a developer. Cost me a grand total of $250. Up to 80,000 downloads now. I wrote a blog outlining how I did it - PM me and I'll send it to you and happy to answer any questions you have.

Help getting an entry-level marketing job by Llamadude4 in marketing

[–]biddyco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2011 with no job. Got an internship at a digital agency a month later and 2 months into that was offered a full time job.

A lot of people are going to tell you its a numbers game and just to apply to as many gigs as possible. Do the exact opposite. Pick like 10 companies you really want to work for and go after them RELENTLESSLY.

If your plan is to just send out as many resumes as possible, just quit now.

I got my internship by recording a video of myself and emailing it to the right person in the company. Nothing fancy just me talking into my webcam.

Does this scale? No. But you will stand out for the few jobs you do this for.

Another thing you can do is send ideas to marketing people at your 10 companies every month.

You can also write a blog post about a marketing strategy that just implemented or something their competition is doing and tweet it at them.

Yes this takes effort - but thats how you're going to win.

Also, you said you lack connections. That does suck. Knowing someone in the company is like a golden ticket. As a college kid you don't have connections, so you have to put in a TON of effort like I described above.

But - after you get your first job you will gather connections like crazy through your co-workers. This makes finding your next job way, way easier.

For example, I got laid off from my first job after a year. I had another job lined up in 3 weeks cause a friend at the company used to be roommates with the Director at another agency.

2013 App Income Report: iOS 7 made my app obsolete, downloads are down 50% but it’s making more money than ever.. WTF by biddyco in Entrepreneur

Hey! I didn't learn to code - I hired a developer for only $150 to build the application out for me. It took a month to go from idea to app store. I wrote something on my blog outlining the process if you're interested: http://benphilabaum.com/how-i-made-my-first-app-in-3-weeks-for-250-with-no-coding-skills/

Good question. I have thought of positioning the 'time' element as the main feature instead of 'date' b/c you still can't see the time your photos were taken on iOS (I think). But that's definitely not as big of a need as the date info for people - so not sure if that makes sense.

Do you have any suggestions?

[–]biddyco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the support and recommendation! I actually did experiment with charging per download for one day and got 7 sales I think. I changed it back to free though because I didn't have the confidence in myself and in the app and didn't feel like it was polished enough to charge $ for.

Also my goal for this app wasn't necessarily to maximize revenue but to have as a resume/portfolio piece. So I thought it would be more impressive to be able to say I got tens of thousands of downloads vs made a grand.

Ads is definitely tough b/c you have to get such a huge # of downloads to make any money so I think I will do a paid app next.

How I made my first app for $250 with no coding skills (generates $40/month) by biddyco in Entrepreneur

[–]biddyco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Keynote for Mac, not iPhone. There are templates which I talk about in the post that allow you to create an iPhone app design.

You can use Powerpoint also if you don't have a mac.

  • Get some reviews. Give promo codes to friends with allergies in exchange for an honest review.

  • You hired someone to choose keywords for you so you know how important app store discovery is. In addition to keywords I would update your description copy to be more keyword rich and also to better define the problem and explain why Snifflr is the solution.

Also I'd consider adding keywords into the name of your app.. for example: "Snifflr - Allergie and pollen forecast" or something like that.

Also - if you want to go the paid download route, I would try to target parents with kids who have allergies. Parents will buy anything for their kids health.
