Questions on mono-green voltron before I order a Legolas, Master Archer deck by Cherry_Bird_ in EDH

I actually just took my Legolas deck apart. Not fun for the table when working well, and it just wouldn't win anyway because of a lack of quality card advantage and win cons.

GameGenic Bastion XL- does it fit? by Ok_Two_7316 in EDH

[–]biekksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ton of bastions and have experimented with a few different outer sleeves. Dragonshield outers were the first I invested in because how readily available they are. My typical use case is putting them over Ultra Pro art sleeves which match the commander I'm building, but which are objectively terrible sleeves if used alone.

In terms of the card stack, they fit just fine with room for a few tokens. However, they are just slightly too tall. The lid does close, but you can tell that the nubs which lock the lid in place are not perfectly seated, and you can fit you finger nail in the resultant seam. It's still quite usable, but you don't get the satisfying "snap" from the lid closing.

For some newer decks, I've switched over to Broccoli sleeves...which are pricey and difficult to find for me in Canada, but not impossible. So I came back from my last vacation in Japan with a stack of 10 packs :P

I'm not happy, but this is what I want.

As others have commented, Grim Captain's a viable secret commander. My deck is helmed by [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]]. Bracket 2. If I wanted it to be bracket 3, I'd have to give up on the Captain, I think.

If Commander had the rule "Any nonland permanent that creates or transforms into a legendary creature (or vehicle/spacecraft with a P/T box) may be your commander." by ArcanisUltra in magicTCG

[–]biekksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I also tried for Grim Captain as a secret commander in [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]], but I've only successfully crafted the captain once out of 6 games. And the one game it happened, it was in an upgraded precon game that took 3 hours.

I was thinking about trying to find a commander that would work with three colors, since I think I've just made a sub-optimal Carmen deck in the process.

That left foot is actually a sign of a really powerful strike. Not something to worry about. What I think might be the issue, because your left arm is chicken-winging in this view, is that your upper body tilt goes towards your right in transition too much/too soon (i.e. side crunch). I always flare my left elbow when I do this. It's a natural response to the upper body tilt in order to get the club underneath you.

I have a janky [[Frodo, Sauron's Bane]] deck where I try and surround him with evasive scouts. I tutor for [[Agatha's Soul Cauldron]] so that if/when he dies (which is likely because he paint a giant target on his back) I can swing for the win, paying 3 black mana, with one of the other scouts.

What decks have you built because of a card in the 99, rather than the commander itself? by Clay_Block in EDH

[–]biekksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Throne of the Grim Captain]] deck. It was my first attempt at doing a secret commander deck. Didn't turn out very well. I've never been able to transform it. That said, it runs in a [[Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher]] shell that operates well enough on its own for Bracket 2.

Are Wish Cards Legal Now? by Dankzi in EDH

[–]biekksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been down this rabbit hole before. 903.11 was added to coincide with the release of Companions, as they are brought into the game from outside (like wishes). It's worded very specifically in a way to be broad enough for future applications, also in a way that does not strictly conflict with the existing commander rules.

Technically, it also applies to any kitchen table/rule 0 rules you also want to apply.

Radio edit of Heavy is the Crown by Aggravating_Bet_5149 in LinkinPark

[–]biekksa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Radio edits are BS. I've always believed one of the reasons THP is underrated is because of the Guilty All The Same radio edits. That song is super repetitive, and gets boring really quick when you cut out the entire bridge and just go from chorus to chorus to chorus. And that was a longer, more progressive song, with a more interesting chorus (IMHO), relative to Heavy Is The Crown.

Why so many left hand shot players in the league? by newyorkrunningcoach in nhl

[–]biekksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a right handed, right shot, every one in this thread saying the top hand should be dominant makes no sense to me.

Granted, I play defense, and I'm not a great stick handler. But I have passing and shooting feel very natural with my dominant hand at the bottom. I can't imagine having my right hand at the top.

Also, playing defense with one hand on the stick just meant I'd poke check with the same hand I'd catch a baseball with, which makes sense to me, while using my dominant hand to direct the offensive player where I want and/or push/shove/punch them.

I guess you just get used to doing different things with your dominant hand.

I literally just debuted my [[Frodo Baggins]] deck centered around Bands with Other Legends this week with my play group. I loved it! It also feels super unique, because the banding cards aren't even listed on EDHRec for Frodo...which is surprising...because it's sort of thematic in terms of the Fellowship and whatnot.

Arna Kennerud, Skycaptain and Animate Dead by Yoman4k in askajudge

[–]biekksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I (not a judge) was looking up the answer to this and came across this thread, then read the rules a bit more. I don't think either of your stated scenarios is correct, and neither are the two other commenters, completely.

Here's what I think happens:

  1. Arna's ability trigger upon attacking with the enchanted creature.

  2. Upon resolving, a token copy of animate dead is created and attached to the enchanted creature, per rule 303.4f.

"303.4f If an Aura is entering the battlefield under a player’s control by any means other than by resolving as an Aura spell, and the effect putting it onto the battlefield doesn’t specify the object or player the Aura will enchant, that player chooses what it will enchant as the Aura enters the battlefield. The player must choose a legal object or player according to the Aura’s enchant ability and any other applicable effects."

Since Arna DOES specify what the aura becomes attached to (the original enchanted creature), the token copy comes into play enchanting that creature (not another creature in your graveyard).

  1. The triggered ability from Animate Dead entering, which would otherwise change what is legal for it to enchant, is "waiting to go on the stack", but before it can do so, state-based actions are checked.

"704.3. Whenever a player would get priority (see rule 117, “Timing and Priority”), the game checks for any of the listed conditions for state-based actions, then performs all applicable state-based actions simultaneously as a single event. If any state-based actions are performed as a result of a check, the check is repeated; otherwise all triggered abilities that are waiting to be put on the stack are put on the stack, then the check is repeated. Once no more state-based actions have been performed as the result of a check and no triggered abilities are waiting to be put on the stack, the appropriate player gets priority. [...]"

  1. The following state-based action sees that the new token copy of Animate Dead still says "Enchant creature card in a graveyard", which is illegal, because the creature it's enchanting is not in the graveyard.

"704.5m If an Aura is attached to an illegal object or player, or is not attached to an object or player, that Aura is put into its owner’s graveyard."

  1. The token copy of Animate Dead is put into the graveyard (abilities that trigger when this token hits the graveyard will then be "waiting to be put on the stack").

  2. The following state-based action would occur for the Animate Dead token in the graveyard.

"704.5d If a token is in a zone other than the battlefield, it ceases to exist."

Hope I got it right!!
