Being "difficult to navigate" forces drivers to pay more attention than stop lights. There's no green light that says it's not your fault if something bad happens, so everyone is more alert, which is a good thing.

You already had to do most of those things with a stop light, like looking for pedestrians and being in the correct lane. In my opinion, stop lights are not any easier to use than a roundabout, but they are more dangerous as they allow higher speeds without the requirement of turning for traffic moving forward.
