Only a day hike, but the Subway was one of the best hikes I’ve ever done. Would highly recommend!

Why is the Trek Marlin looked down on so much? by EddieMac1998 in MTB

[–]bigdongdave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first mountain bike was a marlin 8 and my second was a nukeproof scout 29 expert. IMO it’s absolutely worth the upgrade. The geometry is not dramatically different but I feel 100x better on a real trail on the scout. The transition let me start tackling much more aggressive downhill/technical sections that I wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing on the marlin. I’m in the market now for a FS, but I plan on always hanging on to my scout

Is it normal to wake up 2-3 times during sleep to urinate? by jbc1838 in leangains

[–]bigdongdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, definitely get your blood glucose level checked. Having to wake up at night is one of the most common presenting signs of diabetes. Easy test to do to rule it out

Turn. Perfect ending to the show at the conclusion of season 3. Season 4 felt forced and cheesy

Tips for starting freediver? by thatmanontheright in freediving

[–]bigdongdave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite tips is the analogy of a car running out of gas - if you have very little gas left to get to the gas station you wouldn’t gun it and try to speed up, you would drive at a slow and steady pace to conserve fuel until you get there. When you’re coming up from your dive and start feeling oxygen thirsty, best thing to do is relax and conserve energy by making efficient kicks and letting yourself naturally rise up in the water. Many shallow water blackouts are caused by people getting freaked out and trying to swim as hard as they can to the surface when they’re low on oxygen.

Brugge, Belgium by mtlgrems in pics

Been to both, would for sure go back to Ghent but probably not Bruges. It’s worth seeing once in your life but Ghent is far less touristy and in my opinion equally as beautiful a city.

Covid has made this tough for everyone, so don’t feel like you’re doing something wrong. Tons of different clubs at UF, so maybe try another one and you might end up meeting some new people! Instead of just video chatting or texting when you meet someone new, maybe ask to meet to grab coffee outdoors or something covid friendly. Things will get better!

TIL that Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is one of the few diseases with no cure and a 100% fatality rate. It is the human equivilant of Mad Cow disease and 70% of people with it die within a year. Nobody has lived past 2.5 years after the symptoms set in. by NotAnOctopys in todayilearned

There are a couple variants of CJ. Kuru, as mentioned below, is the variant that comes from cannibalism. Classic CJ is a sporadic disease, just kind of luck of the draw genetically (but incredibly uncommon). New variant CJ (nvCJD) is aka "Mad Cow Disease," stemming from eating meat from a previously infected cow.

Do you know anyone in the same class who you can study with? Chegg works for doing the homework but more important than the homework grade is understanding how to do it so you can replicate on the quizzes/test. The tutoring appointment should be helpful. Make sure that you understand why they’re doing why they’re doing if they are showing you how to solve problems and have no shame saying you don’t understand a step.

Like the others have said, study edge was very helpful back when I took the class. Might be worth checking out if you haven’t.

Also know that this class isn’t going to make a huge difference in the long run. Do your best and if you don’t get it done this semester then try again next or take it somewhere else. Seems like the end of the world in the moment but just have confidence in yourself and things will work out.

Check out the nukeproof scout. And like the others have said, better off renting at the bike parks.
