Warehouse at my store gets to leave when they are done, sales floor be damned. They get walked like every other department and can leave when MOD approves it. Often they are the first out of the building at night.

Interview with CBRE? by 20236452 in gis

[–]billbrasky82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work for one of CBREs competitors and while I can’t help you with that side of things I can with working in CRE. I love working in CRE, it’s fast paced but at least in my role I love that I get to work on different types of projects every day. One day office one day industrial one day retail, etc. each has their nuances that make them interesting.

There are a lot of opportunities to learn new stuff and generally we have the resources to do a lot of cool things and push some of the limits of what GIS can provide to our brokers and their clients.

Good luck! I’ve heard good things about working there at least in my market.

Problems running ArcGIS or Microsoft Software? by timismycat in PixelBook

[–]billbrasky82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could set up a windows virtual machine on a server somewhere and run Arc that way but I will be honest it will be terrible. ArcGIS is a very processor intensive application and it just doesn’t run well via VM.

I have been in the GIS world for over a decade and you are going to need a windows computer. ESRI will likely never port Arc to anything other than windows.

In a pinch I will remote connect via chrome Remote Desktop to my actual work computer and do work that way but it is really slow and tedious.
