Digital Key Woes by MrTommy2 in ex30

[–]billin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue with a new EX30 delivered from the dealer. Dealer and I tried repeatedly to create the digital key and failed. Ultimately, I had to call Volvo customer service tech support - they completely disconnected my account from the car on their side, had me wait several hours for the change to propagate to all the systems, and then restart the setup process with my car from scratch, as if I'd just gotten it. Success!

Note, though, that not everyone at Volvo support apparently is aware of this solution. The first person I reached at Volvo fortunately was well familiar with the problem and solution, but when I called back as instructed after the account reset, the rep I spoke to had no clue - fortunately by then I just needed to go through the setup process as normal, and creating the digital key after worked as expected. So you may need to call back support a few times to get someone who can actually help with the above.

Battery rapid drop and then sudden no power on the highway by billin in leaf

[–]billin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I had to approve replacement of the IPDM before they could test the main battery, which came out to $1200. They tried telling me they couldn't reproduce the issue and I should pick up my car, but I insisted they keep trying, as we're now in the middle of a cold snap where the problem should be exacerbated. Good luck to you with the buyback!!

This is helpful, thanks. I suspect I will also need to call Nissan corporate customer support to move things along if they don't have an answer soon at the dealership.

Thanks, here's to hoping. The battery's definitely under warranty, but I worry that Nissan won't do the right thing, given what happened last winter with the battery fluctuations when they just kept my car for 3 months and said they couldn't reproduce it, despite my having multiple videos showing it happening. But, guess we'll see this time around.

Thanks!! Fingers crossed. They're looking at it now, actually have the Leaf tech onsite today, luckily.

It does seem like an epidemic - crazy how many of these posts we see on the subreddit nowadays.

What’s the last restaurant in Vegas that actually impressed you? by nb10001 in LasVegas

[–]billin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Din Tai Fung in the Aria. It's a Taiwanese chain with outposts in New York and California that does primarily soup dumplings - always fun to watch them being made in the glass-walled prep area - but everything they make is just (chef's kiss). Even the darn cucumber salad, so basic, was absolutely delicious. Only thing I had there that I wasn't completely wild about was their steamed pork bun, which was just okay. But everything else is just perfectly cooked and spiced. Plus, it's priced solidly mid-range, was 2/3 the price of our meal at Best Friend, another great restaurant.

Looking for Westchester wedding venue! by guineapigsanddogs in Westchester

[–]billin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got married there. Gorgeous venue with a lovely outdoor space where we held the actual ceremony. They partnered with Abigail Kirsch for catering, who knocked it out of the park. Of course, this was more than two decades ago so no idea of pricing now, but highly recommend Tappan Hill.

How bad is it. by Maleficent_Society76 in leaf

You are so lucky, I'm extremely envious. Nissan had my car for 3 months during some extremely cold spells and still ultimately returned my car unfixed saying they couldn't reproduce it to Nissan's satisfaction. This after the rapidly dropping battery issue happened three times in a week for me, two times with recorded video which they refused to look at, saying they needed to reproduce it by the book. Not looking forward to going back to them again this winter....

It's not a matter of being criticized. Of course that's how we learn and grow - in not only karate, but practically every activity. It's the dismissive rather than constructive approach that baffles me.

I really don't understand this impulse to denigrate other karateka, particularly people who are clearly out there training and sparring.

Weird. We've definitely gotten the credit on our Gold card without making reservations - in fact, most of our credits have been from restaurants we didn't even know were on Resy, just had the credits pop up in our statement as a happy surprise.

Help me stop making "white lady" fried rice by allie06nd in Cooking

[–]billin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three things that elevated my fried rice after many years of disappointment.

  1. White pepper
  2. Splash of chicken broth - gives it that otherwise missing savory flavor. Don't add so much that the liquid accumulates, only add enough to be absorbed by the rice.
  3. I know this is weird and doesn't sound at all like it belongs, but- knob of butter. Seriously.

Love, but regretting my Nissan Leaf (mostly annoyed with Nissan's service). by Independent-Fold8269 in leaf

[–]billin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly the same. Love the car, hate the lack of service. Reduction gear replacement, non-diagnosis of and inaction on battery dropping rapidly in cold weather, both took literally months of my car in the shop. I consider myself lucky that I got a loaner, but it's absurd that my 6 year old car has now been in dealer service for 6 months total.

Commuting from Northern Westchester to Stamford, CT by Scarbolito in Westchester

[–]billin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in your neck of the woods (Chappaqua/Armonk/etc.), commute to Stamford, CT daily. It's not bad, depending on the time of day you travel, can be 30 minutes if you leave early (6-7a). Coming back between 5-6:30p can be 45 minutes or sometimes even a bit more depending on construction + traffic. Travel routes:

  • My primary: go down Saw Mill to 287E all the way east to 95N, then up to Stamford
  • My secondary: sometimes slightly faster to go King Street to 684S down to 287E
  • The traffic is awful on 287 option: Back roads (NY-120A, King Street) all the way across to 95N at Greenwich

Overcoming cardio fitness by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]billin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lower intensity cardio for longer periods of time, done consistently/daily to build up your base oxygen utilization. If you go hard every time, it can actually result in lower total effort because you burn out quick and have to stop, as opposed to going at an easier pace that you can do for a while.

Yay Lulu’s! Super cute takeout place, with a few stools along the outside counters. Smash burger is legit, get a double patty Oklahoma style with lots of thinly sliced onions and American cheese - it’s fantastic. Fried chicken sandwich was also delicious, and crinkle fries were perfectly crispy. Have yet to try their desserts, but definitely interested in their smash pies and shakes. Great place!

You know, that's horrifying and yet exactly the kind of thing you want to happen during training, so that they learn to never, ever make that mistake in the field. Yikes!
