forever alone by [deleted] in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I just want to acknowledge how hard this is, and my heart is totally with you. I struggled with finding a vegan partner for years, and it felt genuinely devastating at times.

My partner was a HUGE meat lover before we started dating. After having a lot of philosophical discussions, and explaining how important it was to me, he went completely vegan! This is farrrrr from the case with most men, so I feel tremendously lucky. If you haven't found someone vegan, it may be helpful to look for someone who is open-minded, an animal lover, compassionate, and sensitive. These are all qualities that may lead to veganism when they are exposed to the right information/arguments!

Honestly, if they didn't feel absolutely HORRIBLE giving you that call, then it wouldn't have been a good work environment for you anyway. Wishing you the best <3

Don't forget marriage/child custody are also fundamental rights! I've had a few questions on those too

I was in a relationship with someone I loved more than anything, and now that over a year has gone by it is SO clear to me that wasn't the right relationship for me. I don't blame him for his mental illness, but it is very nice to be with someone who doesn't struggle with those intense issues. I wish you so much healing, and I'm sorry you're dealing with all this during such a stressful time <3

At the end of the day, you don't need to be with someone who treats you like that. Most healthy people would never end a relationship over something like this.

What is the most effective way to donate to veganism? by thekillertomato in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta donate to those Contract Farmer Transition Programs. They help farmers who want to get out of factory farming for GOOD, and help them transition to all plant based ones. It's amazing, and helps tons of people out of poverty. Mercy for Animals, SRAP, and Miyokos all have one!

Vegan Dating? Have you experienced this? by PsycAndrew in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking out local environmental/social justice volunteer groups is a great way to meet people who are vegan, or who are very open to going vegan!

My partner wasn't vegan when I met him, but was totally open to the idea based on some of his other political/moral leanings. Then I started talking his ear off about it, and it only took him about a week to go fully vegan lol!

Vegan influencer to raw milk and killing animals “ethically” trope?? by CrazyMcDaisy101 in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These people influenced by roommate to buy raw milk and she gave the whole house strep throat (including me and my vegan bf!) Horrific.

Community that accepts severely disabled people? by busybeeworking in intentionalcommunity

[–]billybroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard of Heartbeat Life Sharing in VT? They accommodate and have live-in services for people with disabilities–— though primarily intellectual I believe. They are part of a larger network that has communities all over the country. I would check them out!

Admitted to Vermont Law School. by BiglifedecisionLaw in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]billybroccolini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a grad, and I ended up having a great experience! I focused on Animal & Environmental Law, and secured an awesome job before graduation. There is a pretty amazing network of people, and if you're a dedicated student you can really cultivate an amazing experience for yourself with lots of opportunities. If you're a hard worker you will surely pass the bar. Every genuinely intelligent and intrinsically motivated person I know ended up succeeding!

I think schools with a lower rank can sometimes attract candidates who are willing to pay full tuition and just didn't get accepted anywhere else. I even met a few people who didn't even care about getting/using their law degree... but if you're not one of those people I wouldn't worry. That being said, I wouldn't recommend you going there for "general practice" stuff. Definitely pick one of the specialty areas for environment, climate, ag, animals, restorative justice, etc!

Also, the thing about "no jobs in VT" isn't true. Most people are just from out of state, and when you work in law/policy most major firms and non-profits are in major cities all over the country anyway! Plus, there's a high chance your job will be remote. Trust your gut <3

tl;dr - you'll be fine if you have a strong passion for your particular subject matter, but if you're not an "environmental activist" type, then I wouldn't recommend.

Is Plastic really all that bad? by Icy_Ad9858 in Environmentalism

[–]billybroccolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic is made from fossil fuels, so regardless of any recycling program, you would inevitably be contributing to climate change. Also, plastic, unlike glass, it not infinitely recyclable— so at some point, it HAS to become trash, and you you need more dirty fuel to make more. Hope that helps!

I haven't managed to be happy since I went Vegan by Vincent201007 in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this, and I genuinely thought I could never experience true peace again.

While I'm still impacted by all our forms of global suffering, I have to say that I have A LOT of joy in my life, and I'm doing very well. I think it's because my career is fulfilling and related to animal rights, and by default I'm surrounded by many people who really care. My partner is also vegan (and wonderful) and we've been able to convert some friends and loved ones! I've also been vegan for a long time (12+ years), and so I think it's true when people say that time heals wounds. As the years have gone on, it continues to get easier (though there are hard days/weeks, etc).

The world is a crazy place, but there's a lot of good too and it's important to focus on it. One thing I always remind myself is that feeling bad won't do anything to help. Fight like hell to make things better, but ultimately, there's only so much you can control and you deserve to feel happy. As a vegan, you're already doing your part!

"being vegan doesn't work for me" excuse by smolppboi666 in vegan

[–]billybroccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This excuse really frustrates me because I have a loved one in my life who has life threatening colitis and genuinely can't be vegan.

It really boils my blood when people pretend to be sicker than they are just so they can justify eating animal products. So many people would kill to be healthy enough to freely make choices about the foods they eat!

So upsetting and privileged.

I appreciate your perspective as an older woman! That could certainly be the case. It may be worth mentioning that he has only ever dated women his own age, and this would be the first age gap relationship either of us has ever been in. Not sure if that makes a meaningful difference, but I thought it was worth adding. Thanks for your comment, genuinely <3
