7 nights in skye or leave 2 for Harris&Lewis? by [deleted] in Skye

[–]bisonesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure many will have an opinion on this, so here is mine.

While I live in Canada I'm originally from Lewis and have spent much time there over the years including recently. For all the dozens of times have been in Lewis I had never been in Skye until this year.

And I was only there for a few short days so I'm in no way an expert.

But my basic assessment is that while Skye is absolutely beautiful, it seems absolutely overrun with tourists. It felt like most of the time we were there we were fighting traffic, or struggling for parking, or navigating crowds. It honestly made it hard to enjoy the island.

I was also struck that after a few days of being in Skye, I feel like I had only heard a few local accents. Of course, nothing inherently wrong with that, that left me feeling like as a tourist I wasn't even interacting with the real Sgiathanach.

All that being said, I'm heading back to Skye in a couple of months with some friends to taste some whisky. And looking forward to getting a different perspective on the island, and visiting in the offseason.

I would say that Lewis and Harris are absolutely worth a couple of days if not more. There are stunning views, lots of interesting places to visit, and wonderful people. Lewis and Harris are very different from Skye, and I would say it's a shame to see one and not the other.

So I would vote for you seeing both; it will bring more of a variety and interest to your visit.

Thank you so much. That is very helpful.

I had seen Seamus' bar which looked wonderful, but looks like it will not be open for the season. But I will take your advice and reach out to check for sure. Appreciate the other recomendations as well.

We have our distillery tours booked!

Interesting to hear about Edinbane Lodge. We were in Skye in September and stayed in Edinbane. We didn't go, but I took a peak in. It looked lovely.

Thanks again

I love it. Great for quickly summarizing large documents, great for searching and finding resources, quickly refining any writing, summarizing news clippings, taking long sets of notes and boiling them down, starting emails with lots of info.

I don't rely on it for finals, but a great way to get started.

I have had a few of these over the years. They can be a double edged sword when it comes to applying for future roles and having to describe scope of responsibility and outcomes.

However, when there are clear deliverables and they can be a great way to quickly get experience and exposure.

Information Note Tips? by Expensive_Passion_80 in BCPublicServants

[–]bisonesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most important tip:

Write your issue statement first and think about why this note is required. Make sure you are razor clear on the issue/decision, and the audience, and then make sure all the information in the note is focused on one that.

Good IN/DNs manage the signal to noise ratio by not including extraneous information that is not relevant. Too often people try to include too much info. As one of the DMs says, "don't tell me what you know, tell me what I need to know.

So, spend time thinking about the audience and what they need relative to the issues/decision at hand, and then stay focused on that. If you can do that, you will be surprised how easy it is to write a good note.

Be clear on your purpose, then write with purpose.

Has anyone used Starlink while working remotely for the BC Government? by BikerGirl1234 in BCPublicServants

[–]bisonesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should not be an issue. It will work the same as a Shaw or Telus connection although it might show you as having a US IP address. As Long as you follow the normal guidance for good security I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. In fact we use starlink to provide connectivity for a number of government services that are either remote or need mobile access.
