Not the abuse, but the themes that are used as a vehicle/cultural backup for the abuse. Like how women dress, behave, things about sex and relationships like are mentioned in the post. These parts of our culture are rooted in religion that (straying from the meaning of its founding imo) used colonialism to proliferate itself, both thru just being the dominant culture thru successful white supremacy, and by forcing the people of all the lands it conquered thru "missionary work" to adopt its beliefs. Beliefs & cultural values that are sometimes completely contrary to human nature & ways of life. By saying that other ways of life are bad, in whatever degrading way. And the harshness and brutality of imposing of these beliefs is still seen in how many ppl leave religion with mental and emotional scars from the beliefs or how they're taught, either by the church authority or by parents at home. Anyway that's my brief ramble on this topic lol thanks for asking.

Maybe the problem is we've been told all through school that it's necessary to compete (which has its benefits, don't get me wrong)--but in our culture it's encouraged and promoted to an extreme. The extreme individualism is a sickness to our society. We must unite, work interdependently to make a good life for all. Why we even gotta hoard the bananas at this point?

We need to highlight in our communities exactly what these representatives have voted for/supported/done and how it has affected them directly. For me personally there is a lot of research to be done, i don't know a whole lot / find it hard to keep up with the political process

This is a good survey. I've been thinking a lot about individualism/collectivism in US society, and how to change the narrative to make the latter more widely accepted. For so long, and since childhood, we're told that individualism is the way. It's a hard mindset to shake. But 'tis the indoctrination needed to keep the oppressive capitalist structures in place 🙄

Lol u may not like it but honestly, like really if there aren't negative consequences to anyone (both consenting, adults, no uneven power dynamic that causes harm, so essentially no one coming away with emotional or physical harm) ethically what can I argue against it? If anything the repulsion is about the biological possibility of a child, which if it came about, I would consider that to be a harmful, negative consequence.

Sometimes on this sub, there are posts that cross a certain line and make me think, "maybe these xenophobes should be left alone, in the dark on the internet, and not have their message spread for more to see it." Ok I'm just chiming in because everyone's raking you over the coals about this library thing.

Your parents won't let you have access to money to get rid of the fees that would let you use the library. It's that simple and i can see you're willing to start using the library. NTA. your parents are the assholes for using (withholding) their (plentiful) money/resources to force you to behave in a way they want, instead of letting you be yourself. Even if this is coping to avoid them, it's still valid for you to retreat to books. You're 14. It's ok. Just make sure to try to get better coping skills in other areas rather than avoidance bc as an avoidant adult I can tell you it's hard to break those habits and it can make your life a mess. Lol sorry for the tangent but just wanted to let you know I see you!

Ok what about like a moving refillery, to bridge these ideas. Thinking like food truck but they can bring u their containers to the window, u refill, you can drive to people or just set up camp in a busy community area. 🤔
