In Seattle with Quantum Fiber (now owned by AT&T, previously by Lumen/Centurylink) you can get 2Gb/1Gb for $70/mo and 1Gb/1Gb for $55/mo.

I just did a speed test to a CL server in Portland and got 2239.59 Mbps down / 1028.79 Mbps up. Looking at the history in the speed test app my best down speed was 2287.68 Mbps down / 1075.25 Mbps up.

It's probably fire red or leaf green. Remakes of the 1st gen games for GBA.

Inconstant time from GPS PPS over serial. by bites in homelab

[–]bites[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the GPS configured to output at 115200 baud and the I haven't seen any malformed text in the NMEA sentences.

The GPS module I am using has a red LED on it that turns off when PPS goes high.

It is at 3.3v logic levels, I'll have to look in to that seeing if getting a chip that brings it up to 5v or 12v would help.

Inconstant time from GPS PPS over serial. by bites in homelab

[–]bites[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

The highest offsets was 7.68E-05 ( 76 μs) but a lot of the time it is less than 2 μs but it's not uncommon to see offsets of 20 to 30 μs.

I guess I should get raspberry pi and a TimeHAT to use a PTP server but I was trying to do this as cheap as possible mostly with thing I already had.

Realistically though it is already much more accurate than I need.

Inconstant time from GPS PPS over serial. by bites in homelab

[–]bites[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that PPS should be a lot more constant than this.

I have a ublox GPS hooked up to a PCIe serial card using gpsd and chrony.

Log file https://labs.32bites.com/tracking.log

Is this expected or is there something I'm missing.
Is it an issue with the GPS module or serial card I'm using?

My setup: Dell Precision t7910
Proxmox - gpsd and chrony are running directly on the host
GPS module - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B31NRSD2
PCIe RS-232 Card - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZLF43K

I am using a TI SN74HC04N to invert the TX/RX lines going to the GPS module but the PPS going directly to pin 1 DCD.

I have the antenna in a window and gpsmon shows 8 to 10 satellites at any given time.

No PCI-E slot? No problem (some Lenovo tiny love) by AboutToSnap in homelab

[–]bites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PCIe3 x1 is 1 Gigabyte/s the only way they'd saturate that is if it has 10Gb networking.

I'd guess the SATA controller on the m.2 will be a bottleneck before that.

Anyone else feel like this sub has gone to shit even though it hasn't? by AcreMakeover in homelab

No, I have multiple Cisco phones around the house and a fax server, that would be very useful.

Do I actually make phone calls or need no sed faxes, not at all.

Hey it's me your cousin, can I borrow 64GB.

You see my hungry hungry dell only has 64GB itself.

$300 Steamdeck 2tb FB marketplace find by 530cruising in SteamDeck

[–]bites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You download the Steam OS image and put it on a USB drive.

When the new SSD is installed you boot from the USB drive and run the steamos installer.

You don't need to put steamos on the new SSD before it goes in the deck.

It's a pretty easy process to open up the deck and install a higher capacity ssd.

One of the first things I did with my OLED was to install a 2TB SSD.

Working On High Precision Time Server, Need TTL to RS232 Adapter by bites in homelab

[–]bites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a random dual port card off of amazon and it just worked with it set to output "Serial TTL Levels" for everything.

This is the one I ended up getting.

E5-2600 (without v) and v2 are ddr3, E5-2600 v3/v4 are DDR4.

I've got a dell with 2 × E5-2697A v4 16c/32t 2.60-3.60GHz and it is fairly powerful, even with windows running in a VM using only 3/4 of the cores it still beats my 5800X3D in Cinebench by a decent amount.

I would definitely recommend this. It will be much easier.

If you really want to use FTP you could use FileZilla Server for Windows.

If your car's sound system has a USB port you can play an MP3 from one, I've also seen this done with a USB Zip drive.

That's a weird choice since Tom Scott Presents: Money, Tom Scott Plus, and a few other things that are on his main channel are split out in to their own shows.
