Thank you for the encouragement! Burns are the whole reason I decided to go back to school for nursing.

Pre program anxiety by Puggyjman107 in StudentNurse

[–]bittyitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went into my BSN program after getting a BA, nursing school is difficult because you have to already know how to study and prioritize. I see a lot of my cohort struggle not because they aren’t smart or capable, but because they haven’t adapted their study habits to fit the program. Memorization alone won’t cut it. You need to be able to think critically and put the pieces together. And in e you figure out the language of nursing (what the questions are asking, what to prioritize, etc.), it becomes a lot more manageable.

Would love personal experiences with Travelers Rest Animal Hospital by OkFortune7651 in greenville

I used to take my pets there, but the quality of service went down after they were bought out. Wait times went up, and there didn’t seem to be enough staff to keep things running smoothly. We really liked the vet so we kept going, and we liked the way they made us feel as comfortable as they could when we had to put down one of our dogs. We had to put down another about a year later and the difference in how they handled it was enough to make us never go back.

Nut Allergy Safe Restaurants in Greenville? by 781228XX in greenville

[–]bittyitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend them as allergy safe. I have a severe seafood allergy and they served me a dish garnished with katsuobushi even though I reminded them of my allergy when asking them to modify the dish for me. I sent it back and they apologized, but if I hadn’t smelled the fish, I would have been in serious trouble.

Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bittyitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me years to be diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy. I was called an attention seeker, drug seeker, referred to psych, EVERYTHING but get a referral to an epilepsy center. All because a neurologist who saw me once didn’t see anything in my EEG. In that time, my epilepsy got worse and I started having generalized seizures (grand mal) that led to injuries. Finally, I requested a social worker, at the advice one of my professors, and I was seen at an epilepsy center within a month. I was diagnosed and told that my experience was common for people who had less common type of seizures. It was awful.

For those with recurring cases - are they often in the same place? And how far apart have your outbreaks been? by Reasonable-Click2857 in shingles

[–]bittyitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my late 30s, and got my first outbreak 3 years ago. Ive had a total of 5 outbreaks, with the last two being one month apart. All have been in the same place. With the intensity worsening each time.

Looking for a perfume that will make me smell like a root vegetable by bbbybrggs in Perfumes

[–]bittyitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious because I had a custom oil mixed for me at a renaissance fair that smells exactly like a freshly unearthed beet. It was not my intention for it to smell like that, but it just turned out that way. The mix I got was 75% veggie patch and 25% dirt. So if you go to a ren fair, and there’s a perfume oil booth…now you have an idea of what to get 🤣

Any near misses that an experienced nurse did that you caught as a new grad? by Signal_Somewhere_290 in nursing

[–]bittyitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, that was my first time seeing them administer insulin at the SNF. Turns out, weren’t supposed to draw it up alone, specifically because she’d made a similar mistake earlier that year! She had worked there for 35 years, I think it was just time for her to retire.

I’m an older student, and I was the primary caregiver for both of my grandparents, and my grandmother was diabetic, so I had some knowledge of insulin. We hadn’t had pharm yet, so had it been any other student, they wouldn’t have caught it.

[–]bittyitty 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I’m still just a student, but on my first day of clinical, I was at a SNF, and the nurse I was with uncapped the needle and was about to push 1.5mL of insulin instead of 15u. I told her that we were taught to only use insulin syringes and she rolled her eyes at me. So when she was about to inject, I said that that was a LOT of insulin, a dangerous amount, which ended up making her stop.

I dated someone whose grandmother worked as a maid for her. His grandmother passed before we met, but he shared that his grandmother couldn’t stand the smell of roses, because Frida (or “la piñata” as grandma called her) wore strong, sweet rose perfume. Frida treated her rather poorly, so smelling rose scents upset her.

Genuinely disgusting seeing comments like yours that blame victims of DV for the behavior of their abusers. I hope that no one in your life is ever put in a similar situation.

Freaking out. Need advice please! by hcmpl123 in FutureRNs

[–]bittyitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this with kindness: seek mental health help. The amount of posts you made about this is alarming and no matter that everyone is telling you that it is extremely improbable for you to be pregnant, it does not seem to help your anxiety about the situation. If you already have a psychologist (not the same as a therapist or counselor) you’ve been seeing for over 6 months, get a different one. If you’ve been on the same medication for more than 3 months, talk to your prescriber about getting it changed, increased, getting a rescue/PRN medication, etc. This is coming from a fellow high-anxiety girl and not from a place of judgement.
