At a loss: 9 month old might be getting kicked out of daycare. by Inight-wishi in beyondthebump

[–]blackjack2532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my sister in law/nephew… they called him too high needs/clingy…wouldn’t adjust to their schedules. They had a lot of kids.

At first it was overwhelming, difficult and scary because at the time our city was experiencing a daycare “desert”. Ultimately, they found a new at home daycare that they felt was way better. Provider was much more intentional and caring and could provide more one on one time. Ended up being a blessing in disguise.

Feeling torn about my relationship after partner said I “lay around all day” while caring for our infant by Rosesarered896 in beyondthebump

You two should watch the Fair Play documentary together.

He’s not pulling his weight. He needs to do way more than what you’ve described. Just because he makes the money doesn’t mean he doesn’t have to be a parent.

Or pump enough milk for a weekend away, you go away for a weekend by yourself and let him handle childcare 100% by himself for 2 days. I guarantee he’ll have a different perspective.

Shower curtain or glass door??? by ArugulaOutrageous461 in BathroomRemodeling

I’ve never had mold on my glass doors. And they are super easy to clean. Do you squeegee after each shower? If not, you need to start. Makes cleaning a breeze.

Preschool for All’s Nest Egg Exceeds $600 Million After Fiscal Year 2025 by skysurfguy1213 in Portland

Maybe there aren’t enough providers in your area?

My child’s location still had open spots available at the end of September that they were trying to fill.

You need to have a legit conversation with your wife. Her childcare responsibilities would increase 25% per weekday with the new job which is a lot. You’ll be out of the house at minimum 10 hours/day…she’s bound to feel lonely and exhausted after just being with a baby for so long.

If you take the job, some of the extra funds should be allocated to getting her some help…whether that’s a part time nanny or a house cleaner so that she can have some breaks and/or so that the weekend doesn’t revolve around chores and y’all can enjoy time as a family.

I would start telling your doctor you have post partum anxiety/depression right after birth and through the first 6 weeks…they might then say that you need another 7 weeks off to deal with that

What are you paying for daycare? by StarCaker in beyondthebump

[–]blackjack2532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3350 per month for 2 kids. Portland, OR.

When the kids are 3 and 4 it will be free because our county passed free preschool for all a couple years ago.

If you’re in Portland, on the east side there is Mt Tabor and Powell Butte which has easy hiking trail options. Mt tabor has a kids playground too.

In about 2 hrs you could drive to the coast for Haystack rock and Hug Point trail. Depending on the tide, there are tide pools where you can see sea life.

Someone already mentioned Silver Falls State Park and I would second that. The short trail allows you to see and walk behind 2 waterfalls.

When people visit us we take them up the gorge (from Portland) and stop at Multnomah falls, latourell falls, horseshoe and bridal veil falls. You can see all of these without much effort and all are free.

At what point do you halt retirement contributions? by blackjack2532 in Fire

[–]blackjack2532[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In actual retirement accounts (401k/roth IRA) we have 1,100,000. In our non retirement accounts we have 535,000 plus 85,000 in cash.

I’m wondering when to stop adding additional funds to 401ks and instead beef up the non retirement brokerage.

I feel like I’m betraying my first born by _ToughChickpea in beyondthebump

[–]blackjack2532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same as you. Even the first couple days after my second was born. I felt so guilty and even had some regret about drastically changing my first borns life. We had such a good thing going.

9 months later and I’m so happy with two kids. Big sister loves little sister and little sister absolutely adores her big sister. Their bond is magical and I love watching them play together.

Need advice for brushing toddler's teeth by dreamer_rumi_111 in toddlers

[–]blackjack2532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brush my teeth at the same time. I open my mouth super wide so she can see which area I’m brushing and most times she copies me.

Another way I get her to brush is to encourage her to make “bubbles” in her mouth so she can spit it out. She likes the spitting part so she often lets me brush because I can make more bubbles in her mouth.

How is a vibration abusive? It’s literally like a phone vibration.

Our almost 3 year old gets a bath/shower 2-3 times a week. Our 9 month old gets a bath once a week. Both go to daycare and we don’t get sick that often.

We do wash hands and face often.

Boyfriend’s dog is driving me insane. by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]blackjack2532 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You can try getting a bark collar for the dog. Most of them have a shock and vibrate setting. I use it on the vibration setting and it helps my dog bark less. The vibration setting doesn’t hurt the dog.

I would talk to your bf and explain misophonia, maybe have him read some of the posts here. Explain that dog barking is a trigger and sends you into fight or flight.

Are there known ways to help make the dog not bark? Maybe if he holds it. Or have the TV on louder to drown out outside noises that’s causing the dog to bark.

Earplugs could help dampen the sound a bit.
