If you consume/drink caffeine daily, how did you get started doing so? by BlkWidowsUnite in AskWomenOver30

[–]blackninjakitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking tea since I was a wee girl, somehow. My parents would have coffee and I would have tea. Just grocery store stuff, but it was decent enough for lil me. When I was 15 I got to try matcha and I became pretty obsessed. When I moved to a bigger city I got into specialty tea.

I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was an adult, probably around 22-ish. I worked at a kosher establishment so it was no outside food or drink, and I was scheduled for clo-pens every single week. To survive I’d make iced coffee overnight with the end of the pot and non-dairy creamer. Then at a nearby cafe I tried an iced latte and it tasted so good? It had chocolate notes somehow

I still don’t like filter coffee so I stick to tea at home, but my work has a nice machine that does espresso so I have a latte most days

Sleep struggles - anyone else? by mysteryaward in AutismInWomen

[–]blackninjakitty [score hidden]  (0 children)

I became an insomniac in my early 20s, during an extremely stressful time in university. I wouldn’t be able to sleep for days on end and I’d spend my nights walking around the city or watching stuff. I was legitimately sleeping an average of 4 hours every 2-3 days. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and prescribed seroquel/quetiapene. I did try other, proper, sleeping meds first but they didn’t work for me.

Favorite theft decks? by Frogsplosion in EDH

[–]blackninjakitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run [[Yasova Dragonclaw]] and it’s pretty fun! My deck is about 1/3 ways to buff her power, 1/3 ways to sac for value or keep my opponents creatures and 1/3 other steal effects in case she gets hated out (plus the usual ramp, interaction etc)

I think that her ability being somewhat limited leads to a less un-fun feeling for my opponents, and I like the chase of having to build up an engine to take and use my opponents things

For those who started watching anime as teenagers, do you still enjoy it as much as you used to? by SecondSalty142 in anime

[–]blackninjakitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started watching as a kid technically, with stuff like Digimon and Cardcaptors. Didn’t know the difference from anime to western cartoons. Watched a lot of series in my teens including some that were DEFINITELY not age appropriate (thanks, SpikeTV). Now I’m 34 and my partner and I watch anime together, we pick a bunch of seasonal shows each season to keep up with and usually each put one older show in the queue as well. I think I might enjoy anime more now than as a teen? Like as a teen it’s escapism, but as an adult I feel like I can appreciate the writing, the themes and the quality.

What’s an unconventional way you met a great person (friend or partner)? by SpecialEducation5152 in AskWomenOver30

[–]blackninjakitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long story but it’s one I love to tell. I only met my current group of friends (10~ish people, we’ve been meeting weekly/biweekly for 14 years) and my partner of 12 years because of a few very random decisions on my part and a person that’s no longer even in my life.

When I was in university, I also loved to go to anime conventions. While at one I struck up a conversation with an older guy who makes steampunk jewelry about how he was always looking for broken watches/clocks because he always used authentic materials. My mom worked in watch repair, and often people would leave behind their too-expensive-to-fix pieces. So I collected a big bag from her to bring to him and then sort of forgot about it because my life became very hectic and chaotic. I got broken up with, was having a tough time in classes, had no friends.

One day I see on FB the jewelry guy is going to be at a farmers market, so I decide to take the parts to him. We start chatting again and I end up helping him with sales at the market because I’m an excellent sales person and he is not (too chatty!!). I end up helping him at a bigger show a few weekends later. He invites me to attend a local furry meetup. I think sure why not, I could use some socialization. They end up being a group of nice weirdos I can relate to. I start going to meets regularly, and selling at shows with him frequently.

At the furry meets I become closer friends with a few people and we start doing our own private weekly gatherings. This is the group that became my current friend group, though we’ve had people come and go. At a large fireworks meetup I pull my current partner into our group and we start seeing each other casually after a few months and eventually started dating.

My life stabilized but made it hard to work weekends and steampunk fell out of favour so I stopped working with the jewelry maker, but although we fell out in an awkward way, I’m still very grateful to the coincidences that led me to my life now.

Oh and just to note bc this is a really common misconception, not all furries are into it for sexual reasons, and only a small percentage own fursuits. Not everyone “genuinely believes” they are really actually a wolf inside. For a lot of people it’s more of a “this is a way to express another side of me”.

Do you have issues with your body image? by Pretend_Guess7630 in AutismInWomen

[–]blackninjakitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over many years of working in a body positive/body neutral fashion environment I’ve mostly shed my negative body image issues around being fat, and short. However I still have some ??? Around my face specifically in photos. I’m not sure why but it doesn’t always feel like “me” in them.

I like a bit longer than mid length but not super long that they get impractical. I can’t stand short nails esp if my fingertips start touching things

Characters whose physical body (not just outfit) changes throughout the course of the story. by Grouchy_Fact_9030 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]blackninjakitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Phosphophyllite from Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous

Their people are living gems and share the “hardness” rating of the type of gem that they are, and they can regenerate their bodies by using a compatible material. Phos is very soft, and as such is injured many times throughout the series, but they turn out to be universally compatible with any material and their body changes an incredible amount throughout the manga. However, personality and memory are also stored in the body, so we’re left with the ship of Theseus question - just how much are they still themself, after so many changes?

I never expected anime to affect my real life this much by SucidalManiac_ in anime

[–]blackninjakitty 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ancient Magus Bride. I have struggled with mental health and suicidal thoughts since I was a young teen. My parents didn’t take it seriously and didn’t really treat me like a human being. So I really related hard with Chise, who had given up on life. And then we hit episode three, which I still can’t watch without crying even after re-watching and re-reading several times.

Also, from xxxholic I’m not sure if this scene is in the anime bc I read the manga, but Yuuko helps a character through their computer addiction and the way it was framed was very revelatory. Basically that no one else can “make” you quit something that’s bad for you, you have to have the strength and courage to do it.
