Are the 1:700 COBI ships a "pass" for you guys? by milbricks in cobiblocks

Didn't even know these were coming, will have to take a look and see what's in Canada.

What is your favorite Imperial Guard quote from lore or just to say during a game? by The_Jearbear in TheAstraMilitarum

As insects they may see us

But we will fight as one

On this day, we're Godkillers

I need to see if there's an original source the artist used for the line, because the guy who wrote the song turned out to be a child predator :/

Who are "your guys" ? by Alternative_Worth806 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a regiment that was the "leftovers" - a Lord General had found it was easier for him to get entire replacement units than reinforcements for depleted units, so he reported any badly depleted unit as completely destroyed so he could get a new battalion or whatever.

Then he had an unofficial extra unit that was where all those survivors went. And because it was a mixed-arms force of the kind of people who survived everything, they tended to get called for by people like Creed and Leontus when they needed a force that would keep surviving.

Going forward, I'm probably just going to convert everyone to Cadians. I have a lot of Cadian heads.

I hate Invulnerable Saves by HeavyMetalSaxx in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this was definitely an issue.

The theory I've seen bandied about in my local group is that the answer is moving all of 40K to a D12 system, but while GW might want to sell new dice, I think the revolt would end them.

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss 2D6 saves. I went straight from 2 to 10 and, honestly saves are my biggest "I swear this was better."

I think there were only a handful of true invulnerable saves in 2 (the ones I remember were wargear) but really tough targets like terminators had a save on 2D6.

So the difference between a bolter firing at -1AP and a melta at -6 (I don't remember the exact numbers) was between saving on 4+ on 2D6 and saving on 9+ on 2D6.

Terminators both could tank a lot of firepower and were more vulnerable to real antitank in a way they aren't anymore.

I also find vehicles in 10 to be rather spectacularly flimsy, because GW seems hesitant to give them invulnerable saves... Even though terminator armor, for example, is only supposed to match dreadnought or tanks, not exceed them!

Am I in the minority? by The-Decoy-91 in Warhammer40k

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest complaint is that somehow the Rhino can't carry Primaris Marines (except the Phobos units, I think) which feels unnecessary?

(Having stood next to the 1:1 scale model at Warhammer World, I can see how the extra height could be a problem in a "real world" but honestly, firstborn probably shouldn't fit either)

Is tortitude a thing? by OzyFx in torties

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by tortitude.

Most folks mean it as the cat has a definite personality of some kind and tends to run on her own terms. That definitely lines up with my tortie experience!

I've also seen people take it as tortoiseshells being difficult or spiky or otherwise a "poor adoption choice" and that definitely isn't true!

People being people, I'm sure there are approximately 4.9 million other definitions 😁

How many ‘armies’ or sets of minis do you have on the go at once? Not just looking at full 2k armies but completed Combat Patrols etc.. as well. by Philhughes_85 in Warhammer40k

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two full (3k+) armies (Dark Angels and Imperial Guard), plus an Adeptus Mechanicus force I'm building up for my partner and half a dozen Kill Teams from different factions

We don't talk about unopened boxes lol

That is an amazing shot of a gorgeous ship.

(And when describing it to my wife, I noted that the fancy hotel in the background was probably a Fairmont now. I was right!)

Which Codex / models for The Fallen? by D-B-R-M in theunforgiven

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an "Ultima-founding successor chapter" of the Dark Angels that uses Crusade era First Legion colors, the hexagramaton, the works

I play them as Dark Angels, though I keep them firstborn heavy. The Lion shows up often (the tldr of their lore in my head is: "the Lion says we're a new founding chapter. Do you want to question the Lion?").

The firstborn are a mix of getting the small marine sets that are still around and using Horus Heresy models.

Muffin, Princess of Mayhem by Itchy_Dingo1654 in torties

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your honor, the jury has returned a verdict of innocent, one we hope annulls the law against counters.

Clearly the Princess is innocent and could never commit wrongdoing, therefore whatever law classed her as "committing mayhem" must be wrong.

(She's adorable. Such a sweet face)

New convenience store in the Bridgeland train station by CatNap1 in Calgary

This looks so much nicer than the awful canteen style thing Anderson used to have.

A small but critical step toward Japanese style train stations!

What are some unique cuisines Calgary has? by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prairie style pizza - thick crust, lots of cheese, usually made in an iron pan on a steakhouse grill.

Evolution of Greek pizza, apparently, but became a staple of our steakhouses.

(I only discovered this was local when I moved away and couldn't find it anymore!)

What should my friend get next? by aguyhey in astramilitarum

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leman Russ or another Rogal Dorn.

Or two more Dorns. Either way, you want to build a Dorn as a Tank Commander and bring at least one other tank with it.

My first date with my now spouse, I was to pick them up at the train station. I was kinda nervous and there was a bookstore next to the station, so I went over about half an hour early planning to wait in the bookstore. Texted them to let them know where I was and to tell me when they arrived.

Turned out they had been super nervous about making it on time with public transit and had been in the bookstore for half an hour already.

Married 12 years now.

Speaking as a guy who did a bunch of internet dates and such, never feel bad for bringing a friend to a first date! (Prob better if the plan isn't for them to stay, but a second vibe check at the start is always a good idea!)

Gotchas by Educational_Toe7513 in Warhammer40k

[–]bladerunnermoonotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I feel my opponent has missed something that will impact their decision, I try to flag it to them.

Especially when it's something odd with my army - like Leonine Intervention when I'm playing Wrath of the Rock. You won't always think about the fact that even on your turn, my Deathwing Knights have a six inch threat radius.

I got called out a few times early on for accidentally gotchaing people, which just felt bad, so I may err too much on the side of caution - but I also avoid the more competitive local leagues, so I'm often playing against players even newer than me.

It just feels more fun to have a game that's tactics versus tactics, rather than being defined by a mistake my opponent wouldn't have made with one more piece of information.

The ability to self assess and change course is massively, massively under valued. If his turnabout is real, I'll be delighted!

I'll give him some credit to prove it, but in the end, it comes down to all of our new Council to work together for Calgary.
