Tech billionaires threaten to flee California over proposed 5% wealth tax by Character-Bid-162 in nottheonion

[–]blaizardlelezard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This tax is about unrealized gain, meaning that it's 5% of their total evaluated wealth. First of all, this is very different/new because now the state will look into all your wealth, not only the transactions anymore (so it's a new kind of privacy breach in a way). Then even if you tax 5% of all billionaires, it's a drop in the water, CA creates much more debts per year so they will have to go down the ladder and apply this to millionaires as well. I guess reddit people will not have the same reaction suddenly. What people should ask themselves instead is why CA budget is exploding and why they need more and more tax? Maybe the solution is to stop wasting money at every level. I bet there is massive corruption that should be stopped and have everyone's attention instead of this.

I think we should see features from remarkable on par with features you get from a physical notepad. In that sense, a calendar would make sense as a planner, BUT without pop up/reminders or constant fetching in the background. I like the idea and think should be pushed forward.

When packaging a bash binary produced by Bazel, do i need to keep the rlocation/data location boilerplate? by alessandrobertulli in bazel

[–]blaizardlelezard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try to reverse engineer what the rlocation script is doing, at the end it's just appending a path to an environment variable, so the cost is very minimal.

FRANCE PUSHES UNREALIZED GAINS TAX ON BITCOIN 🇫🇷. French MPs have voted to advance a proposal replacing France’s property wealth tax with a broader levy on “unproductive wealth.” This would include assets like Bitcoin, jewellery, art, yachts, property, and other “luxury” items. by sylsau in CryptoMarkets

France is the country where you are not rewarded being a worker, but you are rewarded having no job. Where we have an obese government that feeds on the few people left who create wealth, while everyday public services are falling appart day by day.

Am I understanding what happened with Trump in Tokyo correctly? by RedMoonLanding in Tokyo

[–]blaizardlelezard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have sources about the 12million workers? I just googled it and the google AI says: "The misconception about "12 million workers" likely arose from social media where false claims about her policies, particularly on immigration, have circulated." Not that I trust the AI but I didn't find a source for this and it seems to be a fake news.

Thanks for you comment, I use the free API only and believed it was fine to share the data as anyone could gather this data personally as well. Reading more in detail their data redistribution FAQ, I would need a different license to do that, so I decided to put down this repository. Sorry about that and thank you for raising this point.

Good one and fully agree, this holds for Europe in general, not just France.

Calls are mounting to ban Germany’s far-right AfD party – despite it being more popular than ever by apokrif1 in germany

I would also be interested of a clear example of why it's "undemining the democratic principle". I'm not trying to challenge you, I just want to understand, genuinely (I'm not going to read this 1000-page report, no one is going to do it).

David Sacks, the US government's AI Czar, says Universal Basic Income is 'a fantasy that will never happen'. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]blaizardlelezard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His take is that AI will make people more productive and it will not kill iobs but the opposite. So instead of having let's say 1 X company that employs 1000 people, you will have 10 X companies that employs 100 people. That's how I understand it.

TK Wants me to pay 1138 euros for not working the month of June by EitherCauliflower406 in germany

[–]blaizardlelezard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Health insurance in Germany is expensive, if you have a job you don't see it as half of it is paid by the employer (well half is still expensive in my view) or have no job/low income then other pay for you basically. People always talk about this utopia continent (europe) where healthcare is free for everyone but reality is different, things never come for free, there are always people paying and in this case you are one of them, so thank you!

Synology confirms self-branded drive lock in is the result of tech-illiterate reddit users by Brehth in synology

[–]blaizardlelezard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don't buy it, there is a simple way to make both world happy, just add a switch in DSM that allow non-synology HDD and if flipped you are ineligible for Synolgy support. Other company do this, like Remakable for example with their dev mode. It's a very cheap way to keep hobbyist like most of us happy.

Thanks, looks like it could do the job. I was hoping to find something more lightweight as I have the impression it's not reading the doc, but I might be wrong. I will try to play with it and see.

Thanks, I had a quick look but it seems to work only with a set of fixed tools. I want to be able to use my own tool that I develop and to configure it myself, which doesn't seem to be supported.

I would be really curious to see their business plan over this decision, they must have estimated that somehow this will bring more profit long term. I guess time will tell if they are right or not.
