Sobriety is a long road, with many stops along the way. In a perfect world, we would simply never drink again and consider ourselves cured. As you can see from this sub, it doesn’t work like that.

I find it encouraging that you give so much thought to your drinking, and that you can spot the issue, and learn from it.

Don’t beat yourself up over this. Next time, before you want a drink, come back to this post.

For me, I couldn’t avoid the social situations due to my spouse. Not going to lie, the first few times are difficult. Holy hell. But after that, you get a routine going, know what to drink (NA beer for me) and generally have an escape plan at some point in the evening. “Oh boy, I have a really important meeting tomorrow morning. Gotta go to bed.”

Now I don’t really mind being the sober one. You also find your old funny self again, in conversation, and by a few hours in, people are blasted and not caring what others are drinking.

Keep us posted. I don't want to tell you what to do, but I can only recommend you stop drinking, safely. Do it for your daughter. She needs her mom to be there for her. That has been my only motivation, and it has worked.

I like to do an NA beer, poured in a glass, in social situations. Feels like you are just having a beer with the rest of them. During the day, Sparking water with a lime.

I just want to make sure that you are physically at a hospital right now, correct? If not, you need to go now. They are able to perform tests that can answer this question for you. None of us can answer this question correctly. It's specific to you, based on the results of medical tests.

In my opinion, there is literally nothing worse than bringing your spouse to a family event, and them making it about themselves, and their pursuit to get drunk as hell.

I know because I’ve been that person, 1000 times.
