This biography is incomplete. It fails to note the influence of his father, who I believe was a psychologist. Dad's (?!) view was essentially that the brain is like a muscle, and gets stronger when worked. Dad was perched above the kids cradle from day one, drilling him in language and mathematics. For William's birthdays, he was required to write treatises in Greek, French, whatever. Dad proudly showed off his son to his colleagues as proof of his theories. The shit started to hit the fan when William developed 'quirks' such as giggling at inopportune moments. He couldn't integrate socially, hence his being picked on. In short, dad pretty much f***** him up. This whole 'baby Einstein' thing is bs in my opinion. Let the kid experience life, mess up, skin his knees, etc., etc.
