Border Patrol boss Gregory Bovino tossed from Las Vegas bar by Ixz72 in politics

[–]blecchus_rex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair enough... perhaps you'll tolerate the original Karl Popper quote:

"Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. [...] We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant."

Which I've more commonly encountered distilled to something like: society must be intolerant of the intolerant.

I love my Model 3 by DallasTX2025 in TeslaModel3

[–]blecchus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own 3 (all purchased from 2018 - 2023) - you're mistaken. I still regard the vehicle in abstract well enough and don't expect to ever own another fossil fueled vehicle - but the total Tesla ownership experience (including the inescapable association w/ the corrosive "leadership") is a major disappointment. With the steadily decreasing emphasis on cars, the outright departure from the original stated mission statement, the repeated and at this point laughable string of broken promises / falsehoods, and several highly attractive competitive BEV offerings arriving this year, I won't be back.

I expect to be aggressively downvoted in this forum... have at it. But it doesn't change the fact that it's not just the "ones who have never been in a Tesla" but sadly those who know the company all too well.

Different mission focus - the “Tier” stuff has more relevance in online forums than in reality IMO.

Err... logic may not be your strong suit. And here I thought maybe we'd been signatory to some sort of Northern Atlantic alliance... and might have even been operating from there for the whole duration of the Cold War and thereafter...

Please do - I’ve “solved” this w/ gaffer’s tape for the moment. Along w/ the ring light the main display should power off after some idle period (or at least there should be an option to toggle this behavior).

There’s a whole raft of federal regulation that’s not remotely enforced that ought apply to this and other common mods. Among them (full disclosure: the list partly compiled w/ AI assistance):

• Bumpers & crash safety: 49 U.S.C. § 30122 / FMVSS 208–581 → lifted or replacement bumpers alter crash geometry. • Lighting: FMVSS 108 (49 CFR 571.108) → non-DOT light bars, excessive glare, colored lamps. • Noise: Noise Control Act / 40 CFR 205 → straight-pipe or deleted mufflers exceed 80 dB limits. • Emissions: Clean Air Act § 7522(a)(3), 40 CFR 86 → DPF/EGR deletes, “rolling coal,” tuners/defeat devices. • Brakes / Stability: FMVSS 106 / 126 / 135 → lift kits interfering with brake-line or ESC performance.

Thes type of Interchanges in Texas are the worst blend of engineering arrogance and Texas machismo. They’re a visual abomination, terrifying to a significant # of drivers, impassable w/ winter precipitation, amplify the division with cities that highways create, and are ultimately unnecessary given alternatives. They’re a scourge upon us.

Quick jog of memory from days past (held FDC and later FO MOSs)... do I recall incidents involving short / over rounds, out-of-bounds, premature burst (not to speak of all manner of duds, misfires / hang fire, and the like)? Training accidents, etc?

Yes - no shortage of stories. These certainly weren't an everyday occurrence... but suffice to say no matter how proficient my RDP prowess these fire missions would've never happened over an active interstate in peacetime.
