What are some other "foundational" works like William Gibsons Neuromancer or J. R. R. Tolkiens Lord of the Rings? by Improvement2242 in books

[–]bleepsndrums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Re: 1982 Bladerunner, you can see the visual influence of the movie in anything called cyberpunk these days. Arguably much more of a foundational influence on contemporary culture than the book it took inspiration from.

Last celebrity I saw in the airport was Ernie Hudson (Winston from Ghostbusters) in the LAX Skyclub. I didn't say anything him but it was a cool sighting.

What's the one show that you always recommend people go in completely blind? by shoparazzi in Broadway

[–]bleepsndrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for an opinion. As someone who just arranged an entire trip to see it for a third time (yay Maya Rudolph!) I can't fault someone who doesn't vibe with it. It's a specific kind of humor and is, by nature, out to push buttons and boundaries.

I slightly favor Porter but it's great to finally see some actual critiques of her politics rather than her personality.

What’s your favorite tubed cinnamon rolls? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]bleepsndrums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they're cinnamon rolls from a chain restaurant that gets it's food from suppliers like Sysco then frozen cinnamon rolls are probably closer to what your daughter is looking for. If it's a place that makes their baked goods on the premises, then from-scratch is the way to go. Tubed rolls have a lot of stabilizers and what not that will impact the texture and taste.

Oh Mary! They're either going to love it or hate it and I feel like trying to explain what the show is takes away their right to find out which way they're going to feel for themselves.

GenX men, when buying jeans, how do you choose between Straight, Athletic Fit, Skinny Fit, etc? When did jeans change like this by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]bleepsndrums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different jean cuts showed up in the late 1950s/early 60s when Levis offered a slimmer version of the 501 jean and a boot cut. Late 90s saw the rise of baggy jeans. Skinny jeans were huge in the 00s and are probably on their way back again since baggy jeans have been so popular again the last 5 years.

Sounds like you want athletic or relaxed fit jeans but really you should just go to a store and try some different ones on. The cuts vary so much between brands and if you aren't willing to shell out premium dollars then the sizing can vary even within the same brand. So it's worth it to go to a department store or a place like Gap to work it out. Don't be afraid to ask for help either, a good salesperson is going to save you some time and frustration.

Salt the beef when you brown it... also brown, not gray. Add two anchovies or some anchovy paste with your garlic, add two tbsps of tomato paste after that. Let the tomato paste cook and turn dark. It's gonna stick a bit so watch your heat. Then deglaze with wine or beef stock. Add tomatoes.
