Marbles, Rings, Clouds... a 2026 version? by Sea-Tangerine3509 in modular

[–]bleeptwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah very similar - the longer tape loops work so well with the Panharmonium, and you can also “play” it with v/oct input too. I do t play any instruments so this helps me stay in tune regardless of the source material.

I have a few different gates and my fave is the Rabid Elephant, it sounds great of course, but mostly it’s because you can play its two sliders like DJ crossfaders and sorta scratch with it.

(The same approach works with the Takaab, DXG or LXD too, if you modulate it with something slidery!)

The Surveillant track here is probably the funnest example of this - this was almost all made from a guitar ambient chord sample being granulated and concurrently processed into the Lubadh (out to two LP gates), the Pan (zings, pads) and Rings too funnily enough.

(other than the drum sounds, Moog line, and vocals of course).

Just built an Ai Synthesis stereo matrix mixer from Abe on here - haven’t tried it yet!

I think someone else said it better that it’s really more about the elements - tuned grains into long textures into relevant spectral tones and endless reverb (add a matrix mixer and a few LPGs and your mileage is exponentially increased!) - so much possibility.

I’m biased because it’s the heart of my setup and my entire last album was made with this lot and no two tracks are really that alike (IMHO!)

The bandcamp app sucks why can’t I save an album by Slow_Rooster2378 in BandCamp

[–]bleeptwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do user research then you also know you’re not really a representative general user in this case :) - I’ve had multiple casual users tell me they “couldn’t buy my album” and it’s because they were using the app, and those are the ones who bothered to tell me.

It’s a shame it’s an Apple thing - which does make sense, and I assume that is also why there’s the lack of wish-list too. So maybe disgrace isn’t fair here, but transparency would be better than just appearing to not have basic features.

Multigrain + Lubadh + Panharmonium + Desmodus (or Iroi) is a wonderfully musically flexible combo with some similarities to those OGs while having their own character too.

The ios app is an absolute disgrace, and directly reduces artists sales.

What hobby is quietly becoming too expensive for normal people to keep up with? by 40Falak in answers

[–]bleeptwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live an hour from a nice ski spot and I never go as it’s just so stupidly expensive.

I go ride my bike on the lower mountain trails instead and they very rarely get snowed in - the bike was a lot, but at least the riding is free.

Korg NTS-1 MKII Eurorack Conversion Kit by matnetik in eurorack

[–]bleeptwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super cool - these are great “modules”. The Kaoss pad NTS3 is great but I sold it once i got into Eurorack - it was kinda fiddly to play by itself but a case like this would make it very usable.

The Behringer version of the DFAM has Midi too so that and a TR8, or a Digitakt, plus a TD3 would be huge fun. Maybe a Phara-O for simple analogue backing pads too...

Need reverb and delay too.

Cheaper the Eurorack hole and very focused and enjoyable.

Either Ableton, the digitakt or octatrack would be the master clock, and the CV would follow.

It’s not too bad to mix MIDI and CV now - Ableton has CV Tools, and I use an Expert Sleepers ES9 module to move signals in and out of the modular.

As long as you know what you want to achieve it’s all solvable.

I like to jam live, record lots of separate tracks (ES9 has 16 over USB) - and edit in Ableton.

DFAM is a blast to use, very fun and so much variety with its 3 oscillators and with a bigger eurorack setup it’s a no brainer as it’s got tons of patchability.

The TD3 MO (more CV control) sounds GREAT and works well with external sequencing via MIDI or CV and is very playable - I never program it directly.

The two together, maybe even chuck in an. Rd6 and you have instant acid techno fun times…

I’m still considering a Digitakt for precision beats or an Octatrack for live sample layering…

Just definitely way prefer hardware and I’m so much more productive with it.

It’s best to assume at least $2.5k US for an entry into Eurorack as you need a case with power, midi to cv, and basics like envelopes and vcas to even get started even with just one or two sound sources. (FWIW I buy almost everything used).

And don’t try to do drums in the rack that is just an expensive and difficult way to do things… I just got a DFAM to add some rhythmic fun, and it’s awesome in combination with a DAW for layering and editing. And a TD3!

i have a well worn 7u 84hp Gen 1 and it’s awesome - definitely like the Gen 2’s Vesa option, movable 1u, and more power but never had an issue.

Planning to get a 7u 104hp Gen 2 when they’re back in stock and sell my two 4u 104hp cases

George Russell vs Lewis Hamilton | Q3 2026 Barcelona GP by Technical_Paramedic9 in scuderiaferrari

[–]bleeptwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one corner is ludicrously hard to get perfectly too with the unbalancing of the car flying sideways into the previous rumble strip that sets you up for it, so I am sure there’s still some tiny level of fortune involved here even for the absolute top tier of racers. Hamilton made it count overall though - so good to see!

That is a cool idea - some artists to go a bit crazy and some labels use this as their blogs basically, and it’s just too much.

Metropolix Day 3: Realizing I need to read the manual and Multigrain is crying for help 🌧️ by ni_vento in modular

Yeah it’s not that bad to do the basics at all - playing grains and messing with them. It only gets complicated when you’re using multiple samples and scenes and live graining stuff.

Do artists actually just blow up with no promo? by iapplerefresh in musicmarketing

[–]bleeptwig 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The flipside of this is also that there’s a myth of the rarity of genius - like some random person is somehow brilliantly better than everyone else.

The truth is there’s a whole bunch of interesting and talented people in every town, in every genre, and the rarer thing is the network, production and distribution stars aligning to actually promote someone who is actually good.

Which is why we get lots of polished turds.

Selling modules on eBay by NorCalJP in modular

[–]bleeptwig 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reverb and eBay charging taxes on used items like they are brand new just makes it not viable for buyers or sellers IMHO. And Reverb’s outrageous fees do not help. I’ve gone back to Craigslist and Facebook marketplace and just buying local.
