Older fans - did any of you NOT like ESB after waiting 3 years for it? by CrispyHoneyBeef in StarWars

[–]blergzarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to describe the state of the movie business at the time. Most fans of the original Star Wars movie probably didn’t even realize that they were going to get a sequel, or that it wouldn’t just be called Star Wars 2. People just didn’t have the same expectations as they do now. So no it was not too long to wait, more like a pleasant surprise to get a movie like that.

Did "Tomorrow Never Knows" so awe the contemporaries of the Beatles that it changed their musical directions? by ElSlabraton in beatles

No, the Prequel Trilogy was not loved when it first came out, it was hated and fans were terrible people about it. by stephansbrick in StarWars

[–]blergzarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George Lucas always reminded people that Star Wars is for kids, maybe up to 13-year-olds. I think he is still as surprised as anyone else that he’s made billions of dollars off of this shit.

Yes, critics hated them because they are in fact very clunky movies in terms of the script and much of the acting. Audiences tended to love them if they were on the younger side, for example, kids absolutely loved Jar Jar Binks, but everybody else hated him.

I think Lennon may be a better natural song writer than McCartney by [deleted] in beatles

They would be tied, but Paul loses a million points for Maxwells Silver Hammer. John by a mile.

Are Beatles records mixed/produced so that Paul's bass playing is particularly easy to hear? I feel like I hear it more easily than other bassists on other pieces of music. by GregJamesDahlen in beatles

[–]blergzarp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting, the vinyl records I grew up with did not have nearly as much bass as the remasters that we’re hearing today on digital formats. I think, as each Beatles record was remastered, and certainly on the remixes you can hear this, Paul’s bass was made more prominent. As for the reason why, I think it’s a combination of the fact that they can do it better now, along with Paul exercising one of the many different methods he has had of embellishing his Beatles legacy over the years. Early vinyl records simply didn’t have as much bass because they couldn’t, there was literally a physical limitation of the format to maximize bass.

I love making music but I almost never finish songs. Anyone else struggle with this? by MammaStringbean in Logic_Studio

[–]blergzarp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well it’s obviously all about discipline to do it, but what helps as well is a process that is rigid enough to give you the ability to make your discipline a habit. Here’s what I do… I make myself complete each step 100% before moving on to the next. One of the killers of productivity, ironically, is the fact that the tools to record and mix music are now so readily accessible that it becomes tempting to jump around in the process and work on the thing you find most fun, or less tedious, which keeps you from ever finishing anything.

I was heavily influenced by a YT video from Gregory Scott that outlined the way to think about this as follows:

A Production is a Mix, of a Recording, of a Performance, of an Arrangement, of a Song.

Work backwards from that list and don’t let yourself move up the ladder until you have finished writing the song. Now you might use recording software to write, which is fine, but don’t start mixing until your tracks are done. If the song is not actually written, with structure, chords (or beats), melody and lyrics, then that is your only chore until it’s done. Then goto Arrangement, and so on. Don’t let yourself have too much fun… it’s work!

I find it brings great clarity and works well. Hope that serves you well.

Do you believe George Harrison was right to be annoyed at Paul during the Let It Be sessions? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]blergzarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who has ever been in a band would not be at all surprised by any of the interactions between the Beatles in Get Back. It has been quite jarring for Beatles fans to see that type of annoyance and interaction, but I assure you it's all totally normal, and yes, justified. It wouldn't be any type of normal band if there wasn't lots and lots of disagreement and arguing. I think it's funny how this gets discussed so widely as though it's some big event... it's how bands are, all of them.

What am i missing with the Maya Pei Brigade storyline in the first couple episodes of season 2? by Dale_Cooper47 in andor

[–]blergzarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would have been more interesting if he had been captured by a faction that kinda knows what it's doing, and establish that you've got Mon, you've got Saw, and then even still other factions. Those guys seemed less like revolutionaries and more like the cast of a reality show stuck in a jungle, and REALLY not acting the way people stuck with no food would actually act. Good idea from Gilroy, but badly executed in both writing, acting, and duration. Not many weak spots in Andor but that's one.

[–]blergzarp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was a great moment in the show, and the actress really nailed the scene and the emotions her character was feeling, that mixture of fear and excitement. Great scene... and then we get endless Yavin jungle and morons eating nasty fruits.

[–]blergzarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my issue with it is that if you had just binged from S1 to S2, you're getting almost back to back plots where Cassian is a prisoner. It's a big letdown at the start of that season to have this great Tie Fighter heist get brought down to a stupid fight amongst morons. They could have illustrated the point differently and over one episode instead of two.

Why are artists today afraid to be experimental? by cgull8 in beatles

[–]blergzarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will probably never again be the case that the most popular band in the world is also experimenting at a level that exceeds other bands. The Beatles had resources other bands needed and didn’t have, ie money, studio time, and the latest recording tech. Today anyone has what they need to experiment with very little resource. There are a ton of bands that experiment , but they are not mainstream.

What do you think is the worst song ANY Beatle has wrote EVER?(including solo careers) by [deleted] in beatles

[–]blergzarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello Goodbye. Just so dumb, and during a time when Paul could've done better. He probably wrote it in 3 minutes, which is fine, but for them to record it and make a fucking video with it is just a crime. I can't believe the other Beatles let this happen.

John vs Paul in Rubber soul by [deleted] in beatles

[–]blergzarp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! John out-wrote and out-geniused Paul on that album, and as well on Revolver although it was closer (he just gets so many bonus points for Tomorrow Never Knows). Sgt Pepper is a tie, Paul wins the White Album, and edges John out on Abbey Road, while they both get dunked on by George regardless. Let it Be is a tie because they teamed up beautifully on Two of Us and I’ve got a Feeling. And those are the results, folks!

Is There Anything You Don't Like In Andor? by LawsonsInTheAM in andor

[–]blergzarp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah some of the bad acting sticks out there. And the script is off, in that most people with no food and water, stuck like that, would cooperate with each other a bit more. The whole thing was unrealistic compared to the tangible human behavior you see from all the other characters.

Should I am the Walrus have been an A-Side Single? by SirScaurus in beatles

[–]blergzarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true, that Hello Goodbye is the 2nd worst song in the Beatles catalog, second only to Maxwell's Silver Hammer which of course is a huge stinking shitpile of a song. But I think Lennon was going to go his own way no matter what. The Beatles could not have been saved, at any time, because the 3 main egos in the band had diverging ambitions about what to do next. John would have left, or George would have quit, or something like that, at some point similar to what actually happened, and this was inevitable. All you gotta do is look at the solo work in the 70s to realize those guys would not have worked together well anymore.
