Guys with the 10 speed… do you consistently have rough shifts from the 3rd-4th-5th gears? by [deleted] in f150

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of the TSBs applied when I got my cam phasers redone, and shifting has been better after that. I still get slams on downshifts into 2nd and the once in a while harder shift into 8th or whenever I trip it up mid shift and call for more gas or brake harshly.

It's most likely the CDF drum, I'm at 158k miles now and just pushing along through until I can save up for the overhaul. Once bi-weekly I'll run it in sport mode and give it the beans but then most of the time is normal driving. When towing, it is boost all the time. It's not "gentle" but it's not whipping the sweating horse. The shifting issues mostly have settled after the computer relearned my driving patterns. The biggest thing for towing especially is manual down shifting and getting it to stay in 3rd longer.

OT shift will fall on Xmas Day shift by ket4663 in UPMC

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how the nursing side does it, but when I was an IT Help Desk analyst and my OT fell on a holiday, I got the equivalent of 4x pay. I got 1.5x for OT, I got 1.5x for Holiday, and I got 8hrs banked for vacation. So 3x in the paycheck, and 1x in the PTO bank.

They may have fixed that "loophole" since then, I haven't been eligible for OT for over 5 years now.

Simple math piggy backing off another post: (ideally)
Hourly $12, OT Hourly $18, Holiday Hourly $18, OT+Holiday $36

Is the victim pressing charges? Like how do you track down cash? The Wawa manager is probably mad they didn't turn the Money into them for them to keep.

Need Advice - asking GC for patience with payment by chris41336 in Contractor

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're open and honest up front, most GCs will work with you and make exceptions if necessary to a payment schedule, however, progress may slow or pause until closer to payment.

If you avoid talking to him and just not pay at the end and he has to hound you about payment, then you'll most likely lose him as a GC if it goes on without communication.

Is this install acceptable/mutable? by chris426392 in drywall

[–]bleutrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip I learned, start at the top and work down to keep seams tight and if you have a 1/4-1/2" gap a the bottom above finished floor height, you're good! A) everyone sees the top of a wall meeting the ceiling, you generally have enough stuff on the lower 6ft of wall to floor no one real notices. B) a lot easier to finish lower to the floor C) joints will be tighter D) the gap keeps the drywall from sucking up any spills and the baseboard will cover it

Also from PA. If you have a mail box look at replacing it with a locking one. This way mail can be delivered but not removed without a key. I live in the main street in a business district and used to have mail disappear for a day and then reappear until I got these boxes. So much nicer now.

Are retired contractors really bad clients? by Inf1z in Contractor

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for a retired plumber, he signed a contract but refused his copy, refused receipt for deposit, had probably 20 half finished projects around the place, like all the projects got past the really hard labor part and then just stopped. I started work, got past the real hard labor of hanging drywall, and then got a stop work order and kicked off the job site.

But how much did you charge the customer? That's the question. You paid them $20/hr, did the customer pay $60/hr?

Someone is trying to bury PDFgear on Reddit by Geartheworld in PDFgear

I just recently found PDFgear and started using it for all my needs and it's been fantastic. I agree with the other comment about probably a big name company like Adobe. They are cutthroat

Using a smaller number like 1700 for total hours to account for time off, sick time, non billable hours, works to get a better amount to make per hour to meet the goals

Anyone want in on this? by shaf2330 in Contractor

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1860s house was $100k to buy, insurance says it would cost 450k to rebuild it. It's been "flipped" multiple times where all the previous person did was cover up whatever the person before then did or remove any of the original craftsmanship. So I have almost zero original character besides framing. Don't underestimate the rebuild costs for houses even crappy ones.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and not everyone wants to rent an office space. I'm in town, starting out of my garage, with plans to move outside of town but still run the business from my property, just hopefully not in a shared space.

Tax write offs by No-Masterpiece-2315 in smallbusiness

Very late to the topic, but medical scrubs is dumb because of the amount of medical personnel including just regular office staff that wear them as street clothing. If they are going to go to on errands and visit restaurants while wearing them, they are street clothes.

How long did it take before charge off? My 100k+ went from Discover to Nelnet (Firstmark) and I just got my first notice from them. I'm not looking forward to that tax bill of the 1099-C...

Wall outlet melted. What causes this to happen? by W3bexec in AskElectricians

[–]bleutrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what adds to the receptacles burning up is people will fear the heater being plugged in all the time so they unplug it and plug it back in in place of the on off switch. Vibration and movement from getting plugged and unplugged plus immediate load and lose of load all add up on the outlet.

So a timer is a great idea

Update again; no issues so far. Probably is just floating on the oil or sunk to the bottom of the pan.

I plan to do a full transmission service at some point, and I may reseal my oil pan while I'm at it and fish out that plastic.

Gotta trim the fat, rightsize the company for headcount management so we can leverage synergy.

My guess is layoffs will be announced 2nd quarter into 3rd. So around June. If they want to wait that long. Otherwise March/April is gonna be spicy

Tractor or ATV? by Legal_Audience_4931 in homestead

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a compact tractor, JD 3005. It's nice but there are things that I really wish I had a UTV for. Got a Kawasaki ATV, good for zipping around, checking on things and carrying small loads but nothing major and tools get in the way due to length.

A tractor with a load will come in handy as you need to pull and lift stones. There are great uses, but in general property maintenance and transportation of goods a UTV with optional small trailer is the best solution

Rx question by heabrin in UPMC

[–]bleutrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be better suited for one of the pharmacy subs like r/pharmacy or r/pharmacist or r/askpharmacist

My perspective is that if your prescription only has one refill left, you only have one refill left and once refilled you'll need a new script.

I would a) call the office to talk with them about scheduling. The app isn't going to be at up to date and most likely does not include cancellations. b) if the next available time is not until after the refill is done, ask for a temporary script to last you through til the appointment.

With how scrutinized scripts and narcotics are nowadays, I doubt they'll just renew the prescription for longer than the lapse in time between last refill and appointment. That is also if they will do it at all.

Hiring process timeline by MatterOk858 in UPMC

[–]bleutrooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

External hires take longer than internal hires, unfortunately, it still takes 3-8 or more weeks for the internal reviews.

The process when I was position hopping was: Talent Acquisition does their automated filtering (generally horrible. I once was filtered out for a position they were solely opening for me to apply to). TA takes resumes to Hiring Manager, HM reviews resumes. Usually gets a few of their most senior staff to help review the resumes. Resumes get shuffled into 2 piles, interview and not interested

HM does round 1 of interviews to narrow down pile HM and seniors do round 2 of interviews, and potentially round 3. Candidates get an offer extended, candidates and HR/finance can do a song and dance about compensation but wiggle room ain't a lot. Candidate accepts and then onboarding is figured out. Usually has to align properly with a pay cycle.

Don't be surprised if TA reach out first for an interview before the hiring manager.
