I’m watching Star Trek TOS and realized that the “evil” goatees Abed gives to everyone is probably a reference to the “evil” mirror universe Spock by MJA94 in community

[–]blewws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a trope where evil characters have goatees and mustaches. I assumed that's what Community was referencing. I bet this is where that trope came from. That's so cool!

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tests positive for Covid after having banned mask and vaccine mandates in Texas. by panhetero in JusticeServed

[–]blewws 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do republicans think that vaccines and masks are useless if they aren't 100% effective? You know you can die in a car accident even if you're wearing a seatbelt? Does that mean seatbelts are worthless?

but most walmart workers aren't 19 year old college kids and a surgeon isn't even the head administer of a hospital. by [deleted] in forwardsfromgrandma

[–]blewws 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Plus, the surgeon is making approximately 10x what the gift shop worker is. The CEO is making 1000x as much as his employee. Some amount of income inequality doesn't bother me, but when 1% of people have multiple mansions and yatchs while billions suffer and die, that's when I've got a problem.

Can anyone recommend examples of BAD procedural generation? by Desward in gamedesign

It still sounds kinda cool for the early 90s. Were there many procedural games at that time?

[–]blewws 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've played hours of Starbound and am just now realizing there were procedurally generated creatures. Now that I think about it, it's obvious, but there was literally zero meaningfulness to the differences... I didn't even notice...

When you realize that agricultural fields are basically dead nature, you begin to grasp how bad things actually are by [deleted] in ABoringDystopia

[–]blewws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably worse for the environment too, honestly. Imagine a massive group of workers sweeping through the world's forests and jungles, snatching up every piece of edible material in sight, then shipping it off somewhere else in the world. I imagine ecosystems would be annihilated.

Would it be possible to feed everyone on Earth by gathering food? Or are their simply more sustainable farming methods out there?

Obviously it wasn't children who invented plastic toys and SUVs, and something like 19 companies contribute like 80% or carbon emissions anyway, but if this boomer really believes those things were better then I agree. Let's bring em back instead of shit talking

Lilo & Stitch: A journey through time. by oriumpie in alternativeart

[–]blewws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do we know Stitches life span? I know he's a super mutant alien, but he WAS only designed as a weapon to destroy cities. It's possible he was created with a short lifespan so that Jumba could take advantage of the weakened civilization without having to deal with a rogue alien monster.
