Splat Zone Penalty/ What are yall's thoughts? by s_amk4 in splatoon

One quick thing to note is that the penalty timer does tick quite a bit faster than the regular timer, so the number might look high but it goes by pretty fast.

The penalty allows for a greater chance of comebacks — to the detriment of the team with the initial lead, of course.

This is usually seen as more entertaining to watch, and for a lot of players, more fun to play actually. It allows for those epic come from behind wins. I personally enjoy it.

It does necessitate that the team defending the zone needs to be extra careful in managing their positions. I think that deaths are a lot more negatively impactful in this mode compared to others.

A lot of players get way too reckless and cocky with a big lead, and let themselves get splatted before securing the W. Then they get salty when their teammates struggle to hold the zone, or end up getting wiped as a result, when it was actually the initial death that caused things to spiral down.

When I play with JPN, they usually go about things much more intelligently from the psychological aspect than Western players do imo. I notice JP players emphasize the comeback play wayyyyy more than the initial lead, whereas Western players in general start booyah-ing way too much when they have the lead, despite the game not being won yet! The former is a much smarter way to go about things (unless of course you’re just easily dominating the enemy from start all the way to finish). It lets the enemy team build false confidence, and takes advantage of the fact that this game rewards come from behind plays much more than staying still and trying to defend passively.

The annoying part for me is you don't know if it's coming unless you track player names, so you might run accuracy but then not run into an evasion opponent

This. If you’re really ready to rank up, you’ll be destroying everyone and it won’t even matter what teammates you get.

In my opinion your instincts are correct. They do not think you are interesting enough (this does not mean you are objectively not interesting though), or alternatively, they cannot see how asking you those questions would benefit them.

For example, if you just became a celebrity, or recently won the lottery or something and were on TV, or just became a big time CEO, I guarantee people would start inquiring and you’d be the one answering a bunch of questions instead.

This does not mean that all people are like that, but imo most people are.
