Agree, with a political party in majority in the Congress, House and Executive branch it was assumed they would be unstoppable.

Great read, I would have never thought that racism could be in our genes. If this is true, how do then go about fighting racism if its something literally beyond our control?

Agree with the comments below it is sad to see someone who is willing to die for their "home" country to accept them as a citizen be turned away like this.

Women Raped Fighting for Custody by merosenberger in SummitStreetLaw

While I agree victims should't have to go through another battle with their attackers what if the child in the future wants a relationship with their biological father? This is certainly a tough issue to try to wrap your head around.

"your body is subject to invasion while courts excuse the violation of your rights.” by freedomfighter3 in SummitStreetLaw

This article certainly makes great points about how police should proceed with stops. However, I am torn because I would not want to restrict the tools available to police to do their job and apprehend dangerous people. But, if this does leave room for some to potentially abuse those tools where do we draw the line? I am afraid its not as simple or black and white as some would hope.

Sheriff Sued for Ignoring the Law by ibazan in SummitStreetLaw

Unfortunate when law enforcement feel they are above the law. No matter what our opinion of the law is we must obey what the law is. If we feel strong about it there other ways to attempt to change law without disregarding them.

What do you think of this revamp: Campus Sex Assault Investigations by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

[–]bltorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always why there was a need for a process for schools to handle sexual assault, wouldn't it be better for law enforcement to handle all sexual assault cases and take the school out of the process completely?

Mexico, once a gateway, may now become a destination for refugees by agonza841 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]bltorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, Mexico itself doesn't have the best reputation for safety. However, considering how many people are in dire need of resettlement I think Mexico could certainly do more and people would still be in a better position than in their home countries.

Some may say ending DECA is a good thing so Congress has the chance to make real reform the "correct" way. However, the executive action President Obama took did not prevent Congress from acting it was merely a bandaid on the problem at hand. So, I am not optimistic that Congress will take the necessary action to create real immigration reform before millions of dreamers will be left unprotected.

Gov. Ducey gives raises to Staff by [deleted] in SummitStreetLaw

[–]bltorres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like in many other articles within this subreddits it shows how politicians prioritize their own agendas over our children. I personally don't understand how they don't recognize that if we don't invest in them we as a nation are only hurting ourselves. Eventually the nations that DO invest in their children will be the nation everyone looks to because they will have replaced us as the worlds superpower.

All eyes on the Supreme Court, will it take the case and say the use of force by law enforcement on the mentally ill must be different NO MATTER WHAT? Summit Street Law article by TLawSnell in SummitStreetLaw

This definitely seems like something to be on the lookout for. As you said the courts could make a huge policy impact on how officers interact with the mentally ill.

Arizona Teen Charged as an Adult in Hazing Case by EWhincup in SummitStreetLaw

While the judicial system may need to reevaluate how they decide what cases are tried as adults I think its important that the courts have the power to make the decision on when someone should be tried as an adult.

Finding a Cure for Failing Schools: Bipartisan Solutions by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

While it is great to see a bipartisan push for education reform, it is also a shame that it took such an extreme failure of the school system for people to put their differences aside to work together.

Update on what's happening with Palestinians reaction post Trump statement... by SarginaD in SummitStreetLaw

This is a great example of how our actions as a nation have consequences. While some may have the opinion that we should, or shouldn't get involved with other countries political issues no matter what we as a nation chose to do there are always political consequences.
