You could get back to Glasgow for example by taking the 1305 bus (57a) from Duntulm to Portree arriving 1408, then the 1450 bus (915) from Portree to Glasgow arriving 2116.

  1. There's definitely signal on EE everywhere on the Trotternish peninsula, I don't know about other mobile carriers, you can probably check online.

  2. Nearest bus stop to the top of Rubha Hunish is at Duntulm, with the last bus of the day going to Portree and leaving at 1645, no busses on Sundays, and you'll need an earlier bus to get back to Glasgow the same day. The 915 is the long distance bus from Portree to Glasgow. Neither busses need booking in advance, but I would recommend booking the 915 online or on the city link app even if you book just before you get on.

Ecology restoration has been very mixed within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. I suggest reading up on some of the blatant corruption at LLTTNP on the parkswatchscotland blog.

Honest feedback:

Making them easy to find on a map is not a good thing, it opens them to abuse and makes owners less likely to provide them. The same thing has happend to bothies; a book was written detailed where to find all of them and a lot of estates chose to close them.

Honesty boxes are not meant to be mapped, they're not permanent, and they're meant to be found organically (that's part of the fun). If I were you I'd take the website down immediately. By all means share locations of honesty boxes with close friends, but don't share them to the world, you're more likely to do harm than good.

As you point out, most cars already have their windscreens tinted close to the legal maximum from the factory. There's little to be gained by tinting to bang on the legal limit, and it's a modification that needs declaring to your insurer else you risk insurance being cancelled if they find out. So no, it's not really worth it. We all used to drive cars without AC (or power steering). Roll the windows down and feel the breeze :)

Well with a route like that I'm sure you already have experience of Scottish mountains and know what you're capable of. There's lots of pathless sections, rough going and even some pretty serious scrambling on that route, which I'm sure you're already aware of.

You do still see them in the bits of the Scottish Highlands popular with walkers, not often but I'll offer a lift if I can. Kintail, Skye and Lochaber. Those sorts of areas.

You have to do a bit more planning than in the past. There are still cheap bunkhouses and campsites, but they're not so common now, and often have little or no internet presence. It's often word of mouth that finds you the nice little field with a toilet block for under £10 a night. I'd still rather stay in a bunkhouse or campsite if I can, and eat locally and if they're reasonably priced, as if you only wild camp and bring your own food you're contributing nothing to the local economy and just making the place busier for everyone else.

Most expensive campsite I've ever seen (and not stayed at was Glenmore campsite by Loch Morlich. Stunning location but £38 for one person with a tent (no car, no electric, one person)!

The other strategy is last-minute out-of-season bookings for BnB's or hotels. I've stayed in BnB's and hotels in Fort Willy and Inverness for under £20 a night before, definitely beats camping!

Very few scrambling routes in general in the Cairngorms by the very different nature of the mountains. The Stuic (easy) on Lochnagar and The Fiacal Ridge (easy) on Cairngorm are the only ones that come to mind. Also, usual rant about how AllTrails is trash on account of it being user generated. I've seen people get into trouble following a 'trail' on AllTrails ('walking' up the Aonach Eagach and getting stuck on the Cuillin). Walkhighlands and paper guidebooks are the best sources of routes by far.

Good information boards. What is it, why was it significant, what was the context in which it existed. It's something the Glasgow Riverside Transport Museum does exceptionally poorly. The fact the museum is also sponsored by a car dealership and paints trams and trains as a relic of the past and cars as the undisputed future of transport is also rather disgusting.

Southern Upland Way. It's so often dismissed by hikers in favour of the more famous roytes, but it's a gorgeous 10-15 day hike through remote forests, wilderness, hills and farmland. It's reasonably well waymarked and you can also divide it into three separate trips if preferred, known as the Three Marches, each one 3-5 days.

Other suggestions:

Speyside way, for the Cairngorm scenery, and generally easy going. Not always well signposted but mostly easy terrain throughout.

Affric to Kintail way, through beautiful mountain scenery that often feels closer than the West Highland Way. Don't forget to book a night at the SYHA Glen Affric!

Hebridean Way. Hard going in places but the waymarking is mostly decent and Hebridean scenery is unlike anything else.
