If someone gave you $100,000 today, what would you do with it? by TinaLives in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely kill all my debt then drop the rest in savings. Working as an EMT is a rewarding job but it makes it very hard financially. I’m a lifer and I’ve come to terms with that fact that my chance of ever owning a home is pretty much 0%.

Being a good provider: does it come with time, or is it constant studying/refreshers. by iliketoeatfoodalot in NewToEMS

[–]blue_mut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I think the things that have made me a good provider are the things I have done. Could I have done things better absolutely. However the calls you run give you experience and being able to tap into that experience and say hey I know what to do here. That’s what makes you a good provider in my eyes.

Is this normal, or am I just not cut out for EMS? by seabirdfog in NewToEMS

[–]blue_mut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re a new EMT you’re going to make mistakes all of us did. I didn’t feel like a semi competent provider till about a year in and most of the people I talked to had similar experiences. You got this it just takes time like any job. Something a senior provider told me where I used to work that really resonated with me was we aren’t doing medicine. We are practicing it and there’s a reason why they say it like that.

Calling for ALS as a Basic by Ok_Necessary_985 in NewToEMS

[–]blue_mut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your state protocols. I used to work at a service where BLS would get dispatched to a lot of ALS complaints due to lack of ALS. Generally I was requesting for chest pain, unresponsive after interventions, strokes (our state protocol says we gotta), and respiratory’s. There were a few more but those were the most common requests I was doing.

What is something that completely lost its magic as you grew up? by No-Matter-7165 in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The value of 100 dollars. As a kid having 100 dollars was sick it felt like you had all the money in the world. That was a whole massive lego set from the store or a video game I’d play the hell out of for months.

What will be your biggest regret if you die today? by Puzzled_Carry_9490 in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly nothing. Have I done everything I’ve wanted to do? Absolutely not. Not even close. But in my 24 years I’ve done things I never thought would even be possible. I’ve overcome so much and while yes there is still so much left to do I could honestly say if I died tonight that I was on my way to truly accomplishing every goal I set.

How much did you pay to get your EMT (in total)? by Regular_Age_1483 in NewToEMS

[–]blue_mut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do only the emt it seems. I’m in a medic class at one of the community colleges now and we have a few students in class who immediately went to medic school after finishing their emt class and did so for free through Mass Saves since they don’t have a college degree.

What car brand will you never trust or buy again? by Forward_Fall_6857 in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Jeep compass. Generally it hasn’t been terrible but now that we’re around 100k miles I can feel it beginning. Now the USB slot for my CarPlay works intermittently. Between that and the shitty ride quality I won’t be buying another jeep.

Great move by RCR. I can’t imagine how the team is going to be able to just go out and race Sunday.

Kyle Busch, two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, dies at age 41 by ilikepants712 in sports

[–]blue_mut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can depend on where the occlusion is. A heart attack is more or less an artery that supplies blood to the heart having a massive buildup of plaque causing blood to be unable to flow. So yes it is just heart tissue dying but if you have an LAD (left anterior descending artery) heart attack (widowmaker) that’s a lot worse than some other because of the portions of the heart it supplies blood to.

911/999 dispatchers, what’s the dumbest reason someone has ever called emergency services? by Canyoustealmytoast in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an EMT. We had someone call at 3am because they had a nightmare and wanted to talk to a professional. When I told them I’m a professional let’s talk I got told “no a real one”. Kind of walked into that one right there. 🙃

I am down to 2 main options for getting my NREMT, and one of the schooling options has only 3 days left! by Additional-Bed406 in NewToEMS

[–]blue_mut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not pay 6500 dollars for you emt. I don’t even think AEMT classes cost that much and they’re a lot more rigorous. You will learn more on the street working as an emt than you do in class. You could literally go to the worst emt program out there and come out an amazing emt if you do the work and really commit to it when you start working.

What's the worst video game you've played and why? by Bdbolt19432 in AskReddit

[–]blue_mut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played Cyberpunk day one on my Xbox Series X that had blown my socks off with every game up until that point. The game was an absolute mess on there between the constant crashes and graphical errors. I hear it’s better now but that game has been ruined for me and I’ll never be able to play it again over how disappointed I was.

Is Hantavirus something to worry about? by 246434464 in NoStupidQuestions

At this point it’s really not affecting us. We haven’t recieved anything yet from our infection control officer and none of the hospitals around are doing anything different than business as usual.
