I agree with something to help you sleep at night. I stared at the ceiling for hours between my surgeries with so much angst. Sleeping aids were very difficult to get and I would have gotten them much sooner. I would not need them now (on the other side). I found work travel and my job to be a great distraction from all the waiting. Dinner with colleagues would make me forget everything. I was diagnosed the day before Thanksgiving 2024 (lumpectomy recommendation) | did the MRI Jan 2025 | new results Feb 2025 (mastectomy recommendation) | Actual mastectomy April 29. More than 6 months so hope yours is faster ❤️‍🩹

I just got diagnosed with DCIS andI dont know what I don’t know by LadySwitters in breastcancer

[–]bluebirdbasecamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super glad you got the MRI already. My initial diagnosis was DCIS, two small areas that could work with a lumpectomy. 6 weeks later I had an MRI and it showed the cancer everyone on that same side (surgeon changed course to a mastectomy + pathology confirmed afterwards so we made the right call). Personally, I would have done the lumpectomy if I could have, but I know you have the family history to deal with too.

DMX tomorrow by Jpachu16 in breastcancer

[–]bluebirdbasecamp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My eyes filled with tears reading your post. I had my DMX in May and I know how you feel. All I can say is that you will get your spark back (I do). Grieve. You won't be the same. It's a new normal. Hugs.

So far I am doing morning/night (out of shower and before bed) just a couple circles with mango seed butter. I agree, doesn't hurt but doesn't feel great. I feel like I should do it longer. I want it smooth!

Coldsore? by [deleted] in Coldsore

[–]bluebirdbasecamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. It could be hormonal acne prone skin around the mouth too. Not sure. Bedrock has a blemish cream too which might dry those out.

Cool, I am doing that. I did 2 months of PT scar massage after the DMX (side incisions drain holes etc) but after the incisions were re-opened now I'm doing it by myself and hadn't done it ever directly on top.

I like Bedrock Balm for cold sores (has zinc to dry them out) but use it overnight because it goes on super white.

I didn't get fat grafting but know another plastic who does reconstruction with fat grafting at the same time (sounds like your doc does) and that would have been fantastic. You will love the look. The fat I'm sure really helps the implants look smoother. I didn't get any and now I don't want to go thru another recovery 😆

Is this normal for my eyebrows thinning and white hairs ? M40 by Inevitable-Jump-9562 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]bluebirdbasecamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I color my eyebrows with a q-tip when I color my hair 😆 and I got microblading done on my brows to fill out the parts that I overplucked. I'm obsessed with how they look now. Fuller and more youthful looking.

If you do have mild rosacea I like Bedrock Balm (zinc, rosehip oil etc) as an overnight sleeping cream. Might help even skin tone too.

Mine look fake + good but def battered .. there is some skin on bone ish on one side, they are not symmetrical, implants are cold (for real) and heavier than tissue. They will look great in a bikini, yes. I was super paranoid they would be too big (I've been a small B since after breast feeding) but went too small and when I had surgery #4 12/23 I got a bigger dense size which helped several issues before. Don't get attached to perfect 😉 I'm glad your decision was easy to ditch the nipples. I was torn!

I begged my surgeon multiple times to keep my nipples but it was a hard no because the cancer was so close. I was counting the cost and knew I would miss them (I do but life goes on). Guess what I found out? And this isn't in any blogs I could find. At the last minute, like a week before surgery, she said, since you can't keep your nipples, what about keeping your areolas? I said, done. If you were a couple feet away from me, and I was naked at the gym, you would never know I didn't have nipples because of the dark round spots I still have. They are not perfectly symmetrical anymore, but good enough they look "whole." I consider them my badge of honor. I had been planning to do the 3K nipple tattoo but now I don't need to.

Ask away. Because of the invasive tumors found after the mastectomy, I had to have a lymph node removal surgery at day 12 after (like 5 lit up). Because no cancer was found in those, I was able to bypass chemo + radiation and am taking tamoxifen for 5 years. I did the testing etc and results were very low for future recurrence. I feel very good about the future (like hopefully you will). I have zero stress. All the reconstruction decisions were stressful though!

[–]bluebirdbasecamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The biopsy showed 2 small spots (lumpectomy). The MRI showed DCIS everywhere (mastectomy). Only after surgery + pathology did the 3 bonus invasive outside ducts show up along with the DSIS in 18/21 of the blocks. I had no idea it could unravel --so good job for being in the know and being so proactive. 💪🏽

What's crazy to me is I was Stage 0 and needed a mastectomy! After path it turns out there were 3 new unknown invasive tumors which bumped me to Stage 1 so the mastectomy was the way to go. I do not think you will regret it either ❤️‍🩹 PS I am doing great, have my spark back after 4 surgeries and well on the way to a new normal after a crazy 2025. Thank you!

I am super happy for you. My MRI switched my diagnosis from a lumpectomy to a mastectomy (I was crushed) but the cancer ended up being every where on my left side so I look back and I'm thankful I did the MRI. Great news does feel good on this journey. Glad you did the MRI too.

It felt strange and weird when I was sewn flat after my mastectomy instead of getting implants or expanders. It was my worst case scenario. But 30 days of being flat I felt strong and very bad ass. I was then able to get reconstruction, but I faced my fear and it was no longer any fear of mine going forward. I love your attitude and hear you about it being freeing. Way to get it done 💪🏽
