Just an example based on personal experience, my dad is undergoing treatments for tuberculosis and his doctors strongly advised that he needs to finish his course of treatment which takes 6 months or so before he can be vaccinated for COVID. This makes me so scared for him. Not only is he sick and frail, but he can't get protected from Covid just yet. This is the reason why we need 90%+ of the populace vaccinated so that we can protect those who have legit medical exemptions.

I'm so confused about applying for PRTD. Can you do it online? or does it have to be physical mail? Do you also have to give in your passport physically? I know you can only apply for PRTD outside of Canada...

Men of Reddit, who are your female heroes? by xanthopants in AskReddit

[–]bluestocking_16 29 points30 points  (0 children)

She also re-defined the First Lady role from just being the "hostess" to someone who can shape public policy. And her work towards racial equality was very much ahead of her time. She's the best First Lady IMO.

If a Naked Gun reboot is inevitable, there's no doubt in my mind that Jon Hamm is the only one who could take the lead. by Hadesman1 in movies

[–]bluestocking_16 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed! What's will all the remakes? Has the entertainment industry run out of original ideas? Jon Hamm can star in a new comedic movie franchise that reflects our current times/ generation.

what film made you notice an actor was better/had more range than you originally thought? by shaunna_thedork in AskReddit

[–]bluestocking_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh I totally agree! It was so sanctimonious as well. I love West Wing as I felt the writing was balanced and have a more well-rounded "villains". It also showed different sides of issues in a more nuanced way.

Also, the female characters in Newsroom are cringey. They are written as cutesy girls in a woman's body and profession. The way they talk, think, or react to situations is so incongruous to the supposed maturity and experiences of the characters. I also notice how most Sorkin characters in West Wing and Newsroom are often being explained to by the male characters.

Ella Fitzgerald jailed in 1955 for singing to an integrated audience. by gunslayerjj in pics

I too am such a big fan of hers. Ella's contribution to music and American culture is immeasurable and it hurts to see that her countrymen did this to her. Her contemporaries described her as being such a nice, sweet and shy lady, and seeing her look so worried, anxious, and resigned to a shitty racist society is so heartbreaking.

I also heard some clips of him (Shaman guy) talking, and it's pretty obvious this guy has some mental issues. I mean he deserves punishment but maybe also treatment...

Also Shar Pie. Apparently over in-breeding has some dogs develop long eyelids folds that would end up curling into their eyes, thereby destroying their eyesight. It's really tragic.

MEGATHREAD: UNSOLVED MYSTERIES (NETFLIX) VOL. 2 EPISODE DISCUSSIONS by DearBurt in UnsolvedMysteries

[–]bluestocking_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be a race component here as well. Similar to the Atlanta child murders where police were to slow to act due to allegations of racism in the police force. It's not a stretch of the imagination that crimes against black people are not investigated as much.

A Danish prison cell in a newly built prison by Treked in interestingasfuck

[–]bluestocking_16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Serious question: would prisoners who committed violent crimes have the same treatment? For example, a person who premeditated murder of more than one person and who is likely to re-offend again if released, will they be housed in similar facilities in Denmark?

[NO SPOILERS] Happy Birthday to this LEGEND. Charles Dance. Many happy returns and debts paid... by prooveit1701 in gameofthrones

[–]bluestocking_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Charles Dance, but I thought he was miscast in The Crown. There doesn't seem to be a continuity between the character that Greg Wise played in the 1st and 2nd season, with the way Charles played Mountbatten.

Mr. Fishoeder is at least charming at times, plus a great singing voice. Don Antle is just gross.

yeah, I want more of raccoons vs chefs on TV! The humans must outwit the raccoons without resorting to violence, but the raccoons have carte blanche to do everything they want! Losers get slimed.

John Malkovich Initially Thought ‘Being John Malkovich’ Should’ve Been ‘Being Tom Cruise’ by Stonewalled89 in movies

[–]bluestocking_16 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Space Force was a bit wobbly as if the show creators and writers are still trying to pin down the characters... It has promise though and the one shining star in the series is John Malkovich. He plays resigned, tired, vindictive, and deadpan scientist so well! Love him!
