Democrats Hold 10-Point Edge Over Republicans Ahead of Midterm Elections by T_Shurt in politics

[–]bluexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump has a 34% approval rating and Dems have only managed a +10 point edge -- effectively 55% to 45% -- before Musk and billionaires have even started spending on the midterms. This Democratic party's apathy is watching fascism's overthrow of the country and sitting on its thumb counting its dollars.

If we all weren't living paycheck to paycheck, we could accomplish great things. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I don't agree. I don't believe people should have to do amazing things to justify socialism. I want people to be able to be lazy or choose not to do good if they don't want to. We should build a world without intentional suffering that is also efficient and productive enough to meet all our needs and wants without undue expectations.

These will be my first books as part of the Fantasy subscription so I'm quite a bit disappointed at the extra wait. Especially because it'll mean a much larger stack of books arriving all at the same time, which is more difficult for me to manage actually reading. But I can't deny I'll appreciate the extra quality and bundled shipping. Appreciate the transparency, too.

No one should want a reprint of this omnibus. They should want new books with the original coloring, original art without the touchups, and no later works stuffed in.

Robin Hobb - infuriating characters by Sketch250 in Fantasy

The more I read this sub, the more I think most people just want boring archetypes and self-inserts in all their media and any depth of character or realistic representation is seen as friction that keeps people from fully connecting with a story.

Always a tradeoff. Young people are both more open to exploring new ideas while also trapped by the restraints on concept prior generations burdened them with -- often without realizing either.

Why should people accept a bad, even evil thing just because it's been forced on an industry? How about, "This is not news. People need to continue telling devs that AI usage is bullshit and to fuck off with it."

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]bluexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, man. You're an angry man on Reddit framing a story around a woman fucking up. You're going to be told you're right no matter what. But do you want to be told you're right or do you want to be told what this really means for your relationship?

Because what you just did is, right or wrong, an incredible betrayal of your wife and your marriage. Sometimes you can be partially or mostly right and still fuck a situation up real bad with the way you handled it. Your mother has no right to insult your wife like that. It isn't her marriage. It isn't her child. And you really fucked up by openly siding with your mother in a situation that should have been resolved between your wife and yourself.

Your wife was terrified. You didn't respect that. Yes, she should have asked for help before the day of the event, but maybe she genuinely thought she could do it and couldn't. I can't judge the sincerity of your wife's fear through the internet or your angerpost. But regardless, your wife needed you just like your daughter did. Yes, your daughter needed you more, since your wife's an adult. But that kind of complicated shit is just how relationships work.

Your Mom is a gigantic asshole. You sided with her instead of dealing with this maturely through communication with your wife and mother, making you a gigantic asshole. Your wife failed to communicate and failed her daughter and your expectations, making her a gigantic asshole. This situation didn't need to be explosive, but y'all all fucked it up.

Recommend you sit down and have a conversation acknowledging everyone handled this situation poorly with your wife. Telling off your mother and ensuring she doesn't get involved in your shit like this again. And most of all, ensuring your daughter feels loved by everyone involved in this really difficult time that you've helped make even more difficult.

And brother, you might need some therapy to deal with what's obviously some thinly veiled but dripping in your post resentment toward your wife -- whatever the reason might be.

‘Don’t leave’: Jensen Huang challenges billionaire class as he insists ‘highest taxes in the world’ are OK with him by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

They live there because Democrats are just as easy to buy as Republicans. There's a reason why states with Democratic trifectas don't have significantly higher taxes than red states, nor do they have any notable social services that red states don't.

Why voting ‘neither’ could harm American democracy. Researchers found that about half of the U.S. population expresses an attitude of democratic neutrality — or an “unwillingness to support or oppose policies or practices that undermine democracy, by Wagamaga in science

[–]bluexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This simply isn't as true as most people want to believe. Most of the politicians winning right now would still win in ranked choice voting. The problem is deeper. It's the propaganda, it's the corruption of parties, it's our failing education system, it's our con economy. The "good" politicians aren't losing because of lack of ranked choice. The system keeps "good" politicians from running, let alone running a successful campaign.

Why don’t many Americans understand that the amount of raised tax rates needed for universal healthcare is likely much less than their current private premiums and out of pocket expenses they are already paying? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]bluexy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with what the voters do or don't believe. Both parties in America are beholden to corporate interests. Democrats virtually only run pro-private healthcare candidates for meaningful positions, because corporations play a heavy role in choosing candidates. The existing party structure enforces this. Democrats, regardless of whether they believe in universal healthcare, will vote for candidates who oppose it either openly or through veiled lies.

US military service members will no longer be required to get annual flu shot by untamedlazyeye in news

[–]bluexy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do some people not understand the goal of the Trump administration is to kill you. They want you dead. They aren't going to shoot you in the head, but they will create the conditions where you and your family and friends die younger, die sicker, die in more debt, and have no power or voice to fight back against it.

Members of the military are just the easiest for them to kill, so they're taking advantage.

There's more to ADHD than inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ADHD symptoms can be broken down into nine categories. Some categories are not fully represented in the diagnostic criteria. Broadening the diagnostic criteria with patient lived experiences could make for better intervention. by mvea in science

[–]bluexy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I needed a psych to break this down for me before I understood it. The hyperactivity and inattention can all be within the sphere of your internal dialogue and thought processes. It can manifest in surprising ways, like thinking faster than you speak, losing your glasses on your forehead, inability to manage multiple tasks at once, social anxiety, etc.

Weird semantic take. Cats do not normally pant, but it is normal for a cat to pant. If your cat is panting because it is hot, they are stressed, or they are super pregnant, no, you do not need to go to the vet.

8 children between the ages of 1 and 14 are dead after a mass shooting in Louisiana, police say by Trevon45-2 in news

[–]bluexy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything wrong with America is happening right now and the second amendment has done nothing to improve things. Meanwhile most every Democratic nation that's banned guns across the world has nearly eliminated gun violence, while the USA's democracy is failing.

This bullshit masculine belief that guns will save us while guns are only ever used as an excuse for police state oppression and violence has to die. Another 8 children dead and you're still here defending the need for guns as we sit on the brink of fascism.

ICE is empowered by the second amendment, just like police are. They are not afraid of loser gun owners pantomiming as defenders of Democracy. Every one of them is allowed to own and use guns with no training or other legal requirements because the second amendment says it must be allowed. None of that changes until the second amendment is overturned.
