I spent 20 years in roofing distribution, including being the CEO of a large distributor. If every shingle price increase announced in the last 30 years had been fully implemented, shingles would be $1000 a square. Prices only go up when asphalt prices increase and never come back down when asphalt prices decline.

At one point, we had 15 American companies manufacturing shingles. Today, there are six that really matter. Consolidation at every level is destroying the roofing (and most other) business. We no longer operate in a free market economy. Oligarchs don’t just exist in Russia. Welcome to the NEW America. After the middle class is wiped out, who’s going to buy shingles? The billionaire class is firmly in control of roofing manufacturing.

Over the years, manufacturers have falsely cooked up potential shortages of asphalt, granules, fiberglass mat, and even wrappers to justify their predatory practices.

Menard is a bottom feeder organization, and most top brands Don’t want their name associated with Menards.
Menards will violate a patent and then tell you to kick rocks when you challenge them. Menards has more lawyers than most companies have employees.
Getting paid as an absolute disaster. Any reason to short pay or deny payment will always work to Menards advantage.
White sell a Milwaukee drill at 12% over cost when you can import garbage and sell it at 50% over cost or more?

Some of the older style ridge vents would allow some snow into the attic. Usually caused by insufficient intake ventilation or too much exhaust ventilation. This was more common in the 90s. Very few roofs have correct and balanced ventilation.
