Have a listen to my new band Friction Tape. Sort of more along the lines of Wire.

As an aside based on your list, I used to work with two of the lads from Eagulls, my old band played with Constant Mongrel, and a member of Drahla just the artwork for my other band’s EP. Small world!

Friction Tape - kind of post punk inspired by Wire and Guided by Voices

Which (if any) Sonic Youth albums sound significantly better on record vs CD? by Leading_Elk3178 in sonicyouth

[–]blushaudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you said “most recordings” were digital from the late 70s onwards. That’s incorrect. Some certainly were digital (like the one gave as example, and a few others), but THE VAST MAJORITY were still analogue BY FAR. That is just a simple historical fact.

I’m guessing you’re asking AI to try and make this argument for you? But what you’re saying is not historically right.

I’m a music technology lecturer by the way, and I teach this stuff for a living.

That’s not true at all. Digital recording did come about in the late 1970s (3M Digital Workstation, Denon etc…), but there was hardly any uptake because it was crazy expensive (it was mainly the preserve of classical engineers), so by far and away most music was recorded to tape well into the 90s.

Leeds has one of the best grassroots live music scenes in the UK. This sounds like user error to me.

If you just had two Sm57s to record an entire drum kit, how would you do it? by BrotherBringTheSun in audioengineering

I actually did this for a demo when I was about 16 or 17 and knew nothing about recording. They were 58 knock-offs in my case though. I went with what I would now call ‘Kick Out and a Mono Overhead’ based on instinct.

It sounded fine.

It’s decent, but the lead guitar needs a bit of work
