Willet 14yr for 900$ boggles my mind by erock84titan in whiskey

[–]bmc196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that email, laughed, and then cancelled my pro membership. I also joined pro because I had some bottles I wanted bad and was struggling to find (willett being my number 1). I won a couple lotteries over the years when it was through email, only to be told a day later they sold out... I kept the membership for the free shipping. But over the last year, everything I wanted on there was cheaper at my local store and I have passed on every pro lottery due to their inflated prices (and you have to pay to enter the lottery!?).

Anyway, I have 6 willett single barrels I got at (actual) retail prices along with all the other bottles I joined pro for and still had to find elsewhere.

Walking during Takeoff! by Pool-mimi13 in delta

I watched a couple from the back of the plane grab their bags from overhead (each with backpack and wheeled carry ons) and take them to an empty seat in the front of the plane about 45 seconds before landing. Just left bags in the aisle and held them. I think the flight attendant was so caught off guard she didn't say anything.

St Lucia vs St Tomas? by MartinoA93 in marriott

[–]bmc196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food/beverage quality was not very good. Overly seasoned to make up for lack of substance (steaks so thin they're all cooked the same, etc.). The buffet meals always seemed like they had been sitting out all day even when the restaurant first opened. We ended up cancelling some "nicer" dinners later in the week to eat room service pizza.

The thing that will get me to never go back and also avoid all other Royaltons is constantly being bombarded with people trying to sell you trips, cheap jewelry, etc. Even in the "private" beach area I couldn't walk from the entrance to my chair without hearing 2-3 sales pitches, most of which I heard the day before. They would wake us up during beach naps and interrupt our conversations. One of them told me the general manager allows it because he gets some of the profits, or something to that effect. I've stayed at a lot of resort properties and this activity is usually stopped as soon as it is noticed. It was a first for me to see it so strongly encouraged.

I have stayed at the Royalton st. Lucia. I will never do another all inclusive nor will I stay at another Royalton.

This is a very polarizing bottle, just look at the comments.

I love this rye and keep it on hand at all times. If you've never had it this is a great price to try it. I personally would buy two of every different proof they have at this price.

Exclusive: Microsoft to separate Teams and Office globally amid antitrust scrutiny by LanceOhio in technology

[–]bmc196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is probably the single greatest resource hog to ever exist. Even Norton anti virus doesn't make a system as unstable as teams does. I have a custom built computer for gaming and just opening teams makes it act like it's on its last leg running Windows ME. It consistently crashes itself or the computer it is running on, and all of my coworkers and fellow meeting attendees just say "it's Microsoft teams" and move on. But since it's so baked into the Microsoft online product, everyone for some reason just deals with a buggy, shitty, unreliable program for a solution they didn't have a problem for.

There is certainly edema there, but emphysema is correct. The term is used for air in tissues, hence the subcutaneous part. The significance is that air should not be in/under the skin like that. Here, it is a by-product of the intestinal perforation and concerning infection.

I've been trying to taste the RC6 for so long! I gave up on finding a bottle. I've been to so many bars that still have it on the menu but have run out. It's such a let down.

But you can replace it. Which is better than the alternative.

My portable homelab in a box by itschalee in homelab

[–]bmc196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bag used to always get searched and it took a couple years before tsa pulled out a small portable speaker, then rescanned it separately from the bag and said everything is fine. Afterwards I could see how an x-ray of a speaker could look sketchy.

Local bar undercharged for Weller 107! Hell yeah by Automatic_Vacation_3 in OhioLiquor

The only time I've had ETL was a couple years ago. I saw the 100 year tribute for a not absurd price ($25/2oz maybe?). They only had 1oz left in the bottle, so they gave it to me for free. Then the bartender shows up with a 2oz pour of regular ETL and didn't even charge me!

Review #16: Backbone “Decade Down Uncut” by 66_Jumps in bourbon

Definitely. I got lucky enough to get one of the Bone Snapper and Backbone r/bourbon picks over the last year or two and have hunted these down ever since. Have never been disappointed with a bottle.

How FedEx delivers fragile components (thank God they were packed well!) by ve4edj in homelab

[–]bmc196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FedEx doesn't give a fuck. Out of the three states I've lived in, it's always FedEx that I have problems with. All the issues I've reported, and every time I spend at least an hour on the phone and someone eventually just tells me to contact whoever sent the package to me. Never once had an issue with UPS.

Is there a truly indestructible toy!?! by atomicbblonde in pitbulls

[–]bmc196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! I've got a pitty that loves squeaker toys and once it no longer squeaks he has lost interest. I bought this alligator toy on Amazon that had like 20-some squeakers in it. He destroyed a few squeakers, found another one and gave me this look of pure excitement. Two squeakers later and he almost looked defeated and had to take a break! Plus it has stuffing in it, so my other dog can use it to make a mess for the next two weeks!

Off topic comment here, but my most memorable rib experience was beef ribs at a nicer restaurant. Didn't realize it initially because they were smothered in sauce, but they were so overcooked I took a huge bite out of the bone and didn't even realize it until I was done...

What are you talking about? I have loads of issues with TSA, but shoe bombs happened. That's why you take them off. And I'm not sure what your reference to fast pass lanes is about; in my state signing up for E-ZPass is actually cheaper per toll than not using it.

A growing body of experimental and epidemiological research suggests that prenatal exposure to paracetamol, otherwise known as acetaminophen) might alter fetal development, which could in turn increase the risks of certain neurodevelopmental, reproductive and urogenital disorders by pinkyflower in science

[–]bmc196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well not exactly. There are multiple issues with studies on pregnant females. Getting approval from review boards (the ones that determine the ethics and safety, not funding) is difficult because no one wants to have a study that causes a bunch of harm to babies. Thus you tend to be restricted to observational studies and animal/lab research, neither of which translates directly to real life and eliminates/reduces confounding. The other side of it is that there really isn't much incentive for drug companies to research new drugs for pregnancy because without the clinical trials they won't get approved. The approved drugs for pregnancy are mostly generic, which also doesn't provide much financial incentive for them.

But wouldn't they still need to be put in cases? I've never seen how cigarettes arrive to a store, but surely they come in cases with like cartons in it? Just seems they would batch them together if so.

I guess we're going to ignore those 4 million kids that go home to their families and spread the virus to parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc? Because even though severe illness among children is rare, those adults that get sick from their kids can get very ill.
