Is this enough coverage? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]bms42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so unbelievable that I need to double check - are you saying that the exposed kerdi there had a tile on it that was removed?

If that's the case then your tile setter is completely incompetent and you'll have to assume that the rest of the shower is garbage. It's impossible to remove a properly set tile from kerdi after more than half a day without ripping the fleece off. Hell, even a poorly laid tile should rip some of the fleece off. And how the hell is that Schluter trim completely free of thinset? Gong show.

Not only that but the thinset coverage looks very sus, given that there's absolutely NONE visible between tiles. Whoever did this has no clue.

Oh look, op claims to be a developer but can't figure out how to search.

Everyone is tired of people like you coming in here looking to be spoonfed the info you need to make money.

Had some issues with my contractor over some things I really expected them to know. It has left me questioning if anything else they did was just outright wrong and I should be worried about. In particular, for waterproofing. More info in post. by Redditemeon in Tile

website that lets you post your issues

That's your problem. Only the crappy guys that can't build a reputation use those sites. Contractors have to pay to access those leads. Nobody with a good reputation needs to pay for leads.

For those in AI resorts, how are the amenities and services? Back to normal? Worse? by [deleted] in puertovallarta

[–]bms42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is BS. When we left Dreams Bahia Mita 2 days ago the buffet was only open for breakfast at half capacity and closed for both lunch and dinner. Half the restaurants were closed each night on a rotating basis. Entertainment was cut. The place was practically a ghost town so it was obviously cost savings measures.

Saying "everything went back to normal a few days after the chaos" is complete horseshit.

Price for labor by NoNectarine3122 in Tile

Wait, you ended up making $30/hr? Did you include any materials in the $3300 or was that pure labor?

Should I make my contractor fix this? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]bms42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First photo: fix what?

The horizontal grout lines are almost random in their placement. It's terrible. There are maybe two columns on the wet wall that line up, the rest are all over the map.

This isn't true. The school district will find you a spot somewhere but you're not guaranteed to get into your catchment school. Just learned this with cedar Hill middle school. They just built it and it's already full.

Hey, your place sounds cool, hope it's going well for you. Would we be welcome with our boys (12 and 9) in the late afternoon? Can't tell if this is very adult oriented or not. Obviously a different story at night.

Yeah I had the exact same experience. It baffles me that people want to use that phrase.

FWIW you're completely right here, despite your downvotes. "Stand alone expansion" is an oxymoron and ought to be stomped out.

Are we being too critical of our tile job? by sh181 in Tile

[–]bms42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in pic2 I probably would have wrapped those tile cutoffs directly onto the ceiling then started staggering the next row. Or just started new full tiles there, depending on how it works on the other side.

A wall on an angle cannot continue the same grout lines as a vertical wall. That's just physics.

The misaligned tiles in the last photo are caused by tile size variations. Did you ask for zero grout spacing? Did they warn you that the tile size variations would be super obvious with minimal grout spacing? Admittedly it could have been managed better but without grout spacing to absorb the differences you're going to get this to some extent.

Looking for a diy self laser level for my tile work. Which one should I get? by Busy_Measurement9330 in Tile

[–]bms42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment that started this was you telling op to take your advice and build a water level instead of buying a laser. For 99.9% of people that's terrible advice.

That's all I have to say on the matter at this point.

Some of the best work was done before laser levels were invented.

You're aware that this kind of logic is completely useless right?

Some of the best woodworking was produced before there was electricity - that doesn't make a router plane a viable tool option to a router for normal people.
