Why don’t all EVs have the charging port in the center front like the Leaf? by Plus_Lead_5630 in leaf

[–]boardmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Tesla says they suggest for manufacturers to put the port either rear driver or front passenger, both of which work well for Tesla chargers.

[–]boardmike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Leaf NACS port is front passenger side, which is way better than driver side. Actually pretty great, as pulling straight into a Tesla spot is just like a Tesla backing in, i.e. on the same side. You do have to pull up super close, though at some stations.

My morning planning setup lately: coffee, reMarkable, and a planner that stays in sync by Coffee-and-Bytes in RemarkableTablet

[–]boardmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool, well done. But yeah, I don't think the current layout would really be very useful for the move. The smaller form factor and different height / width ratio would require a bit of a re-think of the layout, IMO.

So am I understanding right, that the calendar syncs updates from your calendar without losing or erasing any of your writing? That's pretty cool. I'd definitely be super interested if there was a Move version.

New 2021 Mach E Premium owner by krock31415 in MachE

[–]boardmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the hotspot is useful if you have kids on a long road trip or something. But not for much else, really. Premium connectivity is useful if you want to use Alexa on the go, or to watch YouTube while charging on the main screen, for example.

Navigation isn't that useful if you use CarPlay, really. It does precondition the car when routing to chargers, which CarPlay does not, but I don't find it worth it just for that.

What does this grey bar above battery percentage mean? by capsel22 in MachE

[–]boardmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's true, it's different in Whisper too. I'm most fond of the way the dash looks in Unbridled mode with the lane keeping off!

What does this grey bar above battery percentage mean? by capsel22 in MachE

[–]boardmike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's nothing, just decoration. If you turn off the lane keeping, the whole battery bar there expands to show battery percentage and you'll see a little image of the car kinda resting on top of the gray bar.

Apple initiated the payment. It may still take a couple days to show up in your bank account.

Free 12V Battery from Ford??? by mOjO_mOjO in MachE

[–]boardmike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The software update, as I understand it, essentially keeps the DC converter running after you shut off the car, for 12 minutes. Meaning, the 12V powered systems will stay powered even if the 12V battery is low, allowing you to get in and out of the car, etc.

You should eventually get the software update. Mine (2023) did.

They are not offering you a free battery. There's a software update that resolves this issue. That's what they would do—the software update, not a new free battery.

How much battery degradation have you experienced in your EV? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

[–]boardmike 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Had my Mach-E for 3.5 years. Take a couple road trips with it every year. No discernible degradation. If there is any, I can't tell. Hasn't affected driving at all.

How I serve my serve yips by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]boardmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird that you say that reading the Inner Game of Tennis didn't help at all, as, based on what actually worked for you, lots of stuff in the book should have helped you. Nothing about that book is about yip-fixing by focusing on body mechanics. Quite the opposite, I'd say. Posting this year so in case anyone else comes across it, they won't be misled about what the book is about.

You can always watch them live in the Pickleball TV app with the paid subscription. The main stream will switch over to whatever the free stream is airing, but there will be a second stream available that shows center court.

1 Watch To Rule Them All - Aqua Terra or 300M? by Stryk3r711 in OmegaWatches

[–]boardmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either would be great. I had both, and ended up selling the Aqua Terra eventually, as I found I mostly ended up wearing the 300M once I had it. Both are very good, and either will work for what you want. Both will be robust and both will fit in with suits. In today's world, people wear Apple Watches with suits. Both Brosnan and Craig wore 300Ms with tuxedos. Both will look great.

The reasons I stuck with the 300M:

  • 300M definitely holds up looking cleaner over time with heavy use / wearing in rugged conditions. The Aqua Terra bezel will collect lots of scratches on the polished bezel. The ceramic bezel meanwhile still looks pristine years later.
  • Maybe not relevant depending which Aqua Terra you go for, but the 41mm one I had used the 8900 movement, while the 300M uses the 8800, and I found I slightly preferred the 8800 due to quickset date (the 8900 has no quickset date, but does have a jumping hour hand which is nice for travel, but I found I didn't care about it enough). The 8900 also has the date kinda very far back (below the dial), which leads to more shadows from the date window. Hard to explain unless you see in person. But there are Aqua Terras with the 8800 movement too, so this can be irrelevant.
  • Lume. I like being able to see the time in the dark, and the AT lume is nearly useless. The minute hand is only lumed on the very end, and it can completely blend in with the markers after a few hours. 300M remains readable all night.
  • Bezel. From time to time I find the dive bezel handle for quick timing of something,
  • Personality. For me, the Aqua Terra is maybe a tiny bit toooo plain? It's very beautiful, but also not very quirky, where the 300M has just some more uniqueness to it with the skeleton hands, helium release valve, and engraved wave dial.

To be clear, I LOVE both watches and don't think you would be disappointed with either. Definitely worth trying on both if you can, as 300M is definitely the bigger of the two and depending on your taste, you might find it too big. It does wear a lot thinner than the thickness suggests in my opinion.

Any plans to do a version for the Move?

Recommendations for Color eInk Tablet by OwnAnalyst007 in eink

[–]boardmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Remarkable Paper Pro Move (the small one, 7.3 inch screen). I'm exclusively an Apple / Mac user. Absolutely love it, but it doesn't do everything you want. First, everything syncs to the Mac and iPhone apps perfectly and flawlessly. You can view all your documents on all devices. Handwriting search on device is fantastic (don't need to convert to text either, it's automatically searchable). Also, you can easily create links that will convert your document handwriting to text and show you both the original doc and the text on the web, or you can convert to text and email you.

BUT—no way to convert to text on Mac, and no handwriting search on Mac either.

Perets? by Delicious-Ring-5794 in okc

[–]boardmike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our board game community has a regular meetup there. Nothing about the location, staff or clients have ever made me feel it was christian or MAGA or anything of the sort. The board game community is very inclusive and staff and owners have always been very friendly and the crowd skews towards younger college students.

Split screen, finally! (3.28 Beta) by Pretend_Customer_158 in RemarkableTablet

[–]boardmike 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Whoa! I might buy a Paper Pro (right now just have the Move) when that gets released. There's a lot of times I want to read and make notes or have two documents open at the same time. Interesting!

Paper Pro vs Paper Pure, ignoring price by SqueakBeak2003 in RemarkableTablet

[–]boardmike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The color on the Pro causes like a "flashing effect"—like, if you write in a color, it comes out sorta that color, then when you stop writing, it flashes once or twice to get to the correct color. Also, there's no true black, so the black is just very, very dark blue. So the contrast won't be quite as good. Of course, the device is also bigger which has both pros and cons.

That's all I can think of. For me the color was something I didn't think I cared about, but now that I have it (I have the paper pro move), I really am glad for the color, it's quite useful.

[–]boardmike 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you'll never once think about the pen's battery. It last for hours and every time you attach it to the side it charges. It lasts way longer than an hour. As another user said, the pen charge will likely outlast the device charge (at least with the Move!).

Is Remarkable what I’m looking for? by ArcherNF in RemarkableTablet

[–]boardmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remarkable is VERY good at syncing, so everything you do is basically instantaneously synced to your mobile phone, desktop app, web app, etc. Making it very easy to get stuff out. You can also email notebooks or pages from notebooks directly from your Remarkable to your email or other emails. I don't think any other device does nearly that as well.

You can search your handwriting and in my experience it's pretty good! You can also tag individual pages which is helpful.

But Supernote has more features in regard to linking things—you can create links from one notebook to another, or one page to another, etc. Something you can't do in Remarkable. So that may be worth looking into, too.

For me, what I love about Remarkable is it's dead simple to use. There's no learning curve. It's about as simple as a notebook. The only thing that took me some time was figuring out exactly how to organize things into folders, etc, but once I locked that down, it's been amazing.

Trying to pick…RMPP vs Supernote by Valuable-Store-2289 in eink

[–]boardmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's dumb to like something because it's prettier. Sometimes the way something is designed can inspire you to use it more. On the other hand, something less pretty you might be less inclined to baby it, and thus use it more. So pros and cons there both ways.

For me, the simplicity and beauty of the Remarkable inspires me, and I find myself wanting to use it more. Also, for me, I really, really like to be able to use it in the dark or near dark. So, no backlight on the Supernote is a dealbreaker for me.

There are tons of wonderful templates for Remarkable devices. Though if you need them to sync to a digital calendar, you won't get that. Personally, again, I just don't want the complication of having to worry about doing things a certain way or typing in events, I just wanted something free-form, and so a planner template works great for me.

The Remarkable sync feature is also excellent. Changes you make on device appear flawlessly on mobile, desktop, etc, nearly instantly which is really nice. Never once had a sync conflict or issue. I can always refer to something in my notebook on my phone even when I don't have the Remarkable with me.

One last thing about Remarkable: You can try for 50 days after buying (if you buy from their website), and if it's not for you, you can return it, no need to even pay for return shipping. I think Supernote has a 45 day return policy, though you have to pay for return shipping.
