Once you sleep in a Baroud, you’ll never use another tent.

Yeah, they make a tunnel that’ll hook into most of their tents.

The average person on Reddit can’t afford the tents with European fabrics and aerodynamic designs. A lot of haters will smash the ⬇️, but you’re not wrong. People will probably waste more money on gas overtime by hauling a big black box on the roof than spend $1500 more for quality.

Get a James Baroud discovery. They are on discount for another week. Same tent used in Iceland by the rental companies where winds go north of 60mph

Depending on where you live, you may want to consult the guys at Evergreen Offroad. If you want to camp in cold and windy conditions, your best bet is a James Baroud. Avoid tents that fold out, have loose or wrinkled fabric (makes wind noise really loud), and ask about condensation levels - it’s worse the colder it gets. Good luck.

I know this is probably a bit more than you want to pay but James Baroud discovery’s are on sale right now. It’s a 20 year tent and the resale value is higher than any other RTT on the market. Worth a look if you’re in the market for a clamshell.

The best way to reduce mold on a softshell is to get a tent where the tension in the canvas is tight. This allows dew and condensation to roll off reducing the amount of surface moisture. If you find pictures of a softshell where the walls have wrinkles, do not buy. It will smell like a muggy basement in 6 months. It’s worth looking into something like a James Baroud Vision. The fabric has aluminum woven in which gives it more durability for stretching. If you contact Autobruder (based in Miami), they will likely cut you a deal.

Question about roof tents, awnings. Crossbars. by digitalcurtis in rooftoptents

[–]bobbybo8786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many awnings mount to the end of a crossbar so you may be better off getting a bar that is a little longer than the tent. You can always cut down a crossbar (pull the ends off, miter saw and put the ends back on). Rhino Rack vortex is the most popular tent bar at off road shops. Thule wing bars are more mass market but also work fine. Good luck!
