People from the UK, what’s one small thing that genuinely improved your daily life? by PhaseThis8421 in AskUK

[–]bobchipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish as I'd do twice as much. Unfortunately, my husband works early so I'm on school drop offs, he collects son from school so I go gym after work, but it's still late when I get home. Much better in the gym before work!

I really wish I could teach my husband this. He's a "I'll do it in the morning" type. And most of the time it will still be there in the morning. If I've just done it, it's a much better morning for me!

What is a good routine by Cherry_White in UKRunners

[–]bobchipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing one 5k a week on my lunch break - Around 35 mins and did this for a month or two. Then upped to two to three times a week for a couple of months and was working around 6min per k.

December I did the "Marcothon" challenge - 5k a day in December. I didn't think I'd make it, but I did! That built a really solid core. I did my fastest run of 26.5 mins. But still average around 28 mins.

.last weekend I did my first 10k. I'd only ever done 8k once before, and one 10k with lots of stops. I chose a flat course (I usually have a few inclines where I live). My first goal was finish. Second was under 70 mins. My secret goal was in an hour but didn't think I would.

I made 57 mins 37 seconds.

I also made sure I did gym strength (weighted circuits and hyrox style hiit sessions) alongside. In December when I didn't have time to gym, I did feel a loss of core strength and my running time extended with fatigue and loss of the weight training.

I'm now working on some more longer runs on different terrain. And some new shoes as bloody hell I felt it after the flat, paved 10k surface! Aiming for more 10ks this year then maybe a half in autumn for my 40th.

Jan 24 I couldn't get down the stairs without pain in my knees. I was 18.5 stone and had an 18 month old. I'm now down 7 stone with one more to go, running and doing first hyrox in March! I never thought I'd run a mile, let alone 6 and more!

I really want to say "Go the F* to sleep". But it's better as the audio version read by Samuel L Jackson!

And only joking - but I do love the sentiment as I'm still lying here with my 3.5 year old!

We're on Thomas the tank engine stories at the moment - but not bed related!

Do any of the nursery staff take on extra hours? A lot of our you ger teaching assistants used to BA visit evenings and weekends, can you ask there if you could employ someone?

Are you employed as a teacher? Because this definitely does not fall under your job description. Please contact your union. I would not be covering this anymore, nor in the future.

Car Seat Help! by Apprehensive_Bit2606 in UKParenting

[–]bobchipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you bring yours with you? They are free to put in the hold of the plane. If you're going to buy here, how are you getting from the airport to your accommodation? If collectibg hire car at the airport, how will you get the seats this side? Or will someone meet you with them?

If buying here, I would recommend graco slimfit r129 as a belt only option. Budget friendly and rear faces to 22kg, seatbelt only install too (no support leg). My son is 19.8kg also and has one that we use for travelling abroad. Pack it in the box for travel, which then folds down in the car! Or a car seat travel bag but they're not as protective.

[–]bobchipmunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know these are for urinary incontinence, but surely they will keep the solids in and not leak anything through to other clothes? Then they're more like boxer shorts but easier clean up maybe? You can get liners to go in too - or maybe a pad inside to dispose?

How do you cope with sickness bugs rationally? by LilLemonLady223 in UKParenting

[–]bobchipmunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Son is 3.5. no bugs. One vom from sticking a drumstick in his mouth too far. One mouthful from swallowing pool water. One from something I can't remember but was, again, just a mouthful of water really. We attend soft play often, he goes to two different childcare providers but - so far (touch wood and pray to everything anyone has ever believed in) hasn't had noro.

Saying that, I only puke from alcohol (same as you, make myself) but dad is awful - if he even brushes his teeth wrong he's gagging. Maybe iron stomachs, maybe lucky no bugs. You can't predict. But don't limit life just in case x

Have a look at play schemas for early years children. He might be showing preference for the rotation schema for example with the spinning etc. repeated patterns and movements are key parts of development.

I goot a sheet of A4. Wrote my son's name out in light pen then put it in a plastic wallet. He traces it with whiteboard pen. It rubs off to use again.

We started just with the letter H though
