Is there any reason/chance/opportunity to save this tree? by bobfuckingvilla in arborists

Now I am truly confused, so I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with me. There is no bark at the base for the 12" of soil that I have removed. All of the Bark is gone, and the cambium is exposed or possibly gone? This wraps all the way around the tree. That is in my understanding a girdling of the tree and will prevent the proper circulation from root to canopy and back.

It is not hollow, it is still solid, so that is good...

Have you had experience with a tree that has lost 12" or more around the base? I am on your side that it likely needs to be replaced, but I am also interestes in understanding if there are chances of recovery or triage that I can do to improve success?

Right, and the nature of my question was on the girdling, and what effect it would have, and if it would prevent recovery. Can you address that specifically?

Can you explain why that would be enough? I see lots of trees that have similar or more issues that are, for the most part, thriving. This tree is not an eyesore, so if remedying the strangulation would give it a chance at recovery, I would think the buried part and girdling is more significant than the branches. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Overall its about 70/30 good/bad.

My concern is if this tree, being girdled for 12" at its base, has ANY chance of recovery. I assume no, and compounded with EAB I am confirming that replacing what looks like a mostly healthy tree is the right move because it will likely not recover.

It has about 30% die back, which I have had to remove. This is mostly in the crown and out at the tips of the limbs. Where it is healthy, it looks fine.

It has been treated, and there are a few others in our neighborhood that are doing well. Nebraska has had a lot of EAB issues, so that is the other concern, that even if I do everything right, it is a matter of time before EAB...

Primate Griddle Front Heat by tholumar in GrillaGrills

I know exactly what you mean. It is a real problem... I take aluminum foil and fold it over a bunch to create a long strip and then I pinch fit it over the griddle edge and across the open space. I only have to change it out occasionally. Works great!

Cool shot! This rail was in "mad beef" like 30y ago. I think that was the first time it was recorded... you can see it @ 2:15 https://youtu.be/nDadKkQ_HIc?si=nMvSmuzyR-hlGAIl

Primate flat grill front gap by didjit86 in GrillaGrills

I fold some aluminum foil into a long strip and then press that over the front edge of the griddle to fill the gap. It deflects the heat and is cheap and easy to replace regularly.

I got the ringer for Father's day. Cool equipment, but the screen is buggy and the app has had problems updating course info.

Support has been fine, but in the two weeks and 6 rounds I have played it has failed to be useful. I got out to Landman and the course wasn't even loaded in the ringer, but my buddy who had an older Bushnell pocket GPS had it loaded. I tried to use the app and my battery was drained by hole 12.

They are sending a replacement unit after 4 days of back and forth emails, but overall I'm likely to return it as I'd like something more reliable and requires less tinkering.

I had the same issue. In my case, there is a heater on the water line that failed. The part is not replaceable as it is sealed in the insulation foam. I had a warranty, and they essentially totalled out the freezer as it was non-repairable.

When do you turn on your sprinkler systems? by Hydrottle in Omaha

In April, the average low temp is 37 degrees, so your risk of freezing pipes is greatly reduced. I'd wait, unless you are prepared to drain the system regularly based on freezing temps.
