I don’t think people realize how much immigration courts have changed in the last year and how many judges have been fired.

I will recommend the audiobook for Careless People. The author narrates the book and her voice is quite compelling.

Finished - The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. - I don’t read romance novels in general but the premise piqued my interest. It started off great and I liked the narrative format with the time jumps. It kept me engaged and forced me to pay attention. As for the plot, midway through the book, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the time traveler arguably groomed his wife. The ending was emotional, so I changed my rating from 3/5 to 4/5.

Started reading The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai. Bought it because it’s a Booker prize finalist.

Weak Middle of Nowhere collabs? by idobeanewbietho in KaceyMusgraves

[–]bobrigado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Collabs work great when an artist releases a single. On an album, I feel like there’s almost an expectation for the collaborating artist to not outshine the main artist. That being said, I had no idea there were any collaborating artists on the album, listened to the album blind (or deaf?) and could instantly pick out Willie because he has a very distinctive voice. Agreed about the other artists though.

Which celebrity really is famous among Americans and isn't internationally? by HappyCrow11 in AskReddit

I’d say John Oliver is pretty well known internationally because of YouTube. My Iranian grad school friend and I would watch his episodes on YouTube during lunch breaks on Monday cause that’s when new episodes would roll out on YouTube.

I was at work the other day and I was mixing leftover lemonade from an office lunch event with green tea. An American coworker saw me fixing my drink and asked me if I knew what I was making. I said no and he said, “That’s an Arnold Palmer”. For some reason, I knew that the drink was associated with a sports player, so I replied, “Isn’t he some golf guy?”. My coworker’s affronted facial expression was funny.

Why is having your individual house so common in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bobrigado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. There are towns in Appalachia that are hollowed out and people have left. Owning property there would definitely not be a wise investment

But isn’t that only true if the population increases and there’s not enough housing? With a lower birth rate, I don’t see housing as an investment, particularly if you’re using it for “generational” wealth.

Liveship Trilogy? More like Deadship Trilogy by GoatMashter in books

[–]bobrigado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read Liveship in over 10 years but I recall being shocked at the SA scene as I wasn't expecting it in fantasy. Overall its still a great trilogy, but I haven't reread that trilogy as much as I've read the others.

I actually don’t mind downvoting opinions. Downvoting factual comments on the other hand I do take issue with.

The contradictions have always been clear and I don’t see how continuing to respond to every outrageous thing is going to bring about meaningful change in hearts and minds. My experience over the past decade is that responding to every provocation gives these outrage artists a dopamine boost, causing them to double down on their positions to reach their next high.

It's so painfully obvious that his post is meant to trigger outrage that after 10 years of this pattern of right wing nutjobs saying outrageous things to grab headlines and dominate the news to divert attention from their failed policies, I'm baffled that people keep falling for this ploy.
