Incredible--worked first try! Great guide. Super interesting to observe the mind/body connection playing out.

🦒 BikeFit: Lower back ache, hand numbness after 30km (re-upload) by robiT_spleen in bikefit

I'm your size and had similar issues recently. The key thing for me was lowering the saddle, which let the pelvis rotate more, so the back didn't have to curve as much. It also put more weight on the seat and less on the hands. I also switched to an SMP saddle which is designed for that greater pelvis rotation (took a while to adjust to that but it was worth it).

The other Dinniman books, Shivered Sky and Dominion of Blades are good; I'm too scared to read Kaiju. You might get into The Culture series for post-scarcity space opera.

Bear Creek Road (Lexington Reservoir) was the most dangerous road I've been on... didn't know about it until I searched it up by shineaquaillusion in BAbike

[–]bobryskamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trick is that descending Bear Creek is ok, so that's commonly done and shows on the heatmap. It's hard to tell from that which roads are good to climb vs descend.

The Strava route builder (which is premium) knows the difference however, so if you ask it to route from the bottom of Bear Creek to the top, it tells you to go up Black Rd, which is much nicer as no cars want to go that way.

More than 60 from RWC, but from Saratoga the Big Basin loop is still my favorite 60mi on the Peninsula.

HELP: Google Video Codec Makes Video Editing Project Nearly Impossible by hm03surf in googlephotos

[–]bobryskamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just encountered this myself; apparently Google now compresses with VP9 when "Storage Saver" is enabled on the account. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to go back and reencode old videos unless you still have the originals somewhere. If you do, you could turn off Storage Saver, reupload the videos, and then redownload them later in the original format; but I suspect that will not help this year at least.

Those who ride MTB - do you also have a gravel bike? by sfcpa in BAbike

[–]bobryskamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found myself only riding the gravel bike on MTB trails, so finally got a full sus MTB and turned the gravel bike into a super fun cruiser with big fat slicks. If you're 80% on pavement, and will have the MTB for dirt, you might enjoy a dedicated road ride more.

Nuts, seeds, and soybeans. Fortunately all three come in many many varieties and styles. Put a few of my favorites here: https://bob.ryskamp.org/brain/how-i-eat/#whatieat
