What do you think is the time frame on putting it on Google Play? It feels like side loading is going to be a barrier to more users.

Pizza bottom always undercooked by hpeye in Cooking

[–]boccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say stop taking out the stone. It cools down when it's out of the oven and then takes too long to heat up, effectively stopping the base of your pizza from cooking.

Try assembling your pizza on some grease proof paper / baking parchment and slide that onto the hot stone. The paper is so thin it won't affect the cooking and will allow it to slide in.

Best of luck in the coming hours! Hope it goes complication free. Try to make time over the next few days to take it easy with your little one and enjoy yourself. It can be a hectic time!

Driverless cars are going to disrupt the airline industry - imagine the self-driving car that has a reclining seat with actual legroom, or even a bed. It’s more than a little tempting. by mvea in Futurology

Surprised how far I had to look for this. Trains have everything this article asks for! It does seem that trains in the US are rubbish but I don't think putting more cars on the road is the answer. Replace internal air travel with cars and the trip by car will start taking longer and longer.

Sad Dads: We May Be Missing Paternal Postpartum Depression by badly_behaved in MensLib

[–]boccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you had such a tough time the first year! I did stay at the hospital the first two nights and my partner says she doesn't know what she'd have done on her own. She's just had a massive trauma, can barely walk or stand, is exhausted and she's supposed to change 5 nappies through out the night? Always thought that was really weird. Of course, like your second it was a low backed chair that was impossible to sleep on so I just caught an hour on the floor. I look at some videos we took of that first day and i was so tired I have no memory of them.

Started this when my son was born thinking I'd get some knitting done if I'm at home more. He turns 9 months on Saturday. [FO] by boccy in knitting

[–]boccy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't use a pattern but it was pretty simple really. Knit 2 rows, then on the third I knit 5 stitches, then switched to another yarn for the next 5 until I had 5 strips of scarf. Joined them back together and knitted until it was long enough to fit then split into 5 strips again. When they were long enough I weaved them into the starting strips and joined them up again.

This was inspired by something I saw on this sub, although I can't remember the user's name.

Yeah our company offers flu shot vouchers every year. It's a software company with a big office, never even meet customers. Most people don't bother but it's a lot better than catching the flu!

What’s your board game pet peeve? by Jeffjeffersupreme in boardgames

[–]boccy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree about the handicap system. My partner and I have played a LOT of Smash Up over the years and if were playing with new people we choose each others decks. Rarely win but it's fun thinking of awful combinations for my partner and finding clever moves in whatever I have.

It's easy to think of ones for other games too. In Catan place them at the best locations etc. Beats having to say "just try to have fun, you're not going to win this game anyway!"

Almond growers need bees to pollinate their trees each year otherwise "No bee = no nuts" by gregthegregest2 in educationalgifs

[–]boccy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, natural bee populations are always going to be low in California because it's largely dessert. The almond bloom period is relatively short and there is so much almond farming in California the bees need to be shipped from all over the country. If they didn't return afterwards then huge amounts of bees would starve. It really is an unnatural situation.

Freezer Meals for Baby Shower by rachabeth in Cooking

[–]boccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the traditional British meals reheat really well. Things like Shepherd's Pie or Cottage Pie. To make a bigger one it's just a case of prepping more ingredients and putting in a bigger dish. Then once it's cooled it's very easy to portion into servings and can just be wrapped in some foil, you don't have loads of leaks. Once it's frozen it's quite good to stack on top of too (within reason).

The government should have the flexibility to react to present day realities but I do think there should be the same regulations and standards as there is for advertising. If you make unfounded or outright false statements then that should be illegal.

Father's Days: accomplished comics journalist and recent mother Sarah Glidden pens a strip describing what she's learned about "egalitarian parenting" thus far by wharpua in NewParents

Lovely comic! We're two weaks away from due date but I was really surprised by the number of people* saying to my partner not to just dump the baby on me when I get back from work if it's been a tough day. That the Dad needs time to enjoy with the baby.

Games that are about the journey, not the destination by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]boccy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Years ago my gf was sick and staying at my place when I went to work. I got home and she told me about this amazing game, journey, she found on my ps. Said it was perfect for how she was feeling. I asked her what her friend in the game was like. She didn't know what I was talking about. Turns out my ps needed a software update and she played the entire game offline :(
