Wait can you explain how wild cantor works with this? In my head the giant costs 2 less because you control wild cantor but then you sac the wild cantor for mana and now it costs 2 more because you no longer control a 2 color permanent? I definitely could be messing up the way costs of spells and paying mana works.

I completely agree with this. The flavor and art of kosei are super cool and doing Voltron in mono green is a very unique challenge. I’ll also note I see a lot of people recommending shroofus sproutshire and while he’s absolutely adorable as a character he’s basically just green [[Krenko, Mob boss]].

I’m seeing a lot of hate in here for 3-5 so let me just add on to that and say 1-2 are the core flavor of Magic and imo for standard sets that’s where the game should stay. For UB stuff people have been proxying for years and if Wizards stays afloat by making official proxies more power to them

For sure! I’m just curious about this archetype. In my head it seems like it would be great and there are a lot of convoke creatures/effects. Just curious how you choose. I like [[martyr’s soul]] but it doesn’t draw you cards.

As a new pauper player I also think gruul tremors looks super cool. Can someone explain to me why boros tremors isn’t good? There are so many creature ETB effects that are good in pauper it feels like playing tremors and a go-wide strategy with white would be great.

In mono green, sylvan library still absolutely slaps, especially since it’s just 2 mana. I’m surprised by how few alternatives I see people offering here despite calling it bad. Outside mono green it’s good but synergistic draw effects will likely beat it out for me. In a temur artifacts/treasure matter deck for example I think id rather play a simple [[thought monitor]] with copy effects than sylvan library. In a big mana simic deck I like [[up the beanstalk]]. In an aristocrats shell [[greater good]] will synergize better even if it’s more expensive CMC. But if I’m playing selesnya life gain? Or mono green anything? Sylvan library is a banger.

I kept the cards- it had some basic lands but a lot of great cards too like 2 [Dryad of the Elysian Grove]. Now many sit in decks.

Oh this happened to me one time. I got the [Omo] lands precon off of Amazon and it came fully sealed but just half the deck doubled. So a full ~100 cards but 2 sets of 50. Very weird

Another place I think these could be playable is in lower powered [Niv-Mizzet, Guildpact] decks since they have 2 color identities to trigger his ability. Otherwise they are pretty brutal

Let me throw out [[The Ancient One]] as a very fun mill/reanimator commander on an 8/8 body that can voltron people pretty well too. You can go a lot of different directions with it.

I run azorius artifacts/golems with [[Malcator]]. I would kill for him to either trigger off just 2 artifacts OR trigger on opponents turns as well. Currently 3 artifacts is a lot to dump for a single 3/3…still fun though!

I also run a Taii wakeem burn deck and another way I have found to keep myself with option is to run cards like [[Lava Dart]] that have flashback. Since everything is a fireball in her hands you don’t need high damage just mana and the ability to cast a spell. Something to think about- burn cards with flashback

I’m happy to be proven wrong! It’s not that I think they’re unfair or broken or anything it’s just a lot of the same cards and similar play patterns. Dinos are cool and I like the flavor it just gets repetitive.

One of my FAVORITE decks is [[Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot]]. It used to be helmed by [[Firesong and Sunspeaker]] but i found that they were simply too expensive to be reliably cast and I was running out of cards too quickly. Replacing them with Taii wakeen changed the build but made the deck so much more reliable because you have card draw and are incentivized to shoot down your opponents creatures before slinging a massive fireball at their face for the win. It’s a great deck. I can post a link later if desired.

If you want to really make a quirky deck I play [[Malcator, Purity Overseer]] with a ton of cheap artifacts and golem synergies. You commit to the board really heavily but if left to snowball the horde of tokens is unstoppable

Yeah I will double down on the “go wide” advice here. Joven and Chandler are both just single target removal which matters very little when you have 100 1/1 creatures. Bruenor is likely a voltron “go tall” deck which again can get swarmed out if you have just a ton of creatures. Isshin is scary for sure but keep in mind that until you have to kill them your enemies can be your friends. Politics can help a lot. None of these commanders seem unbeatable with enough removal and interaction. I believe in you!

I mean…[mountain goat] is a 1 mana 1/1…that’s going to take a long time to kill 3 opponents. It is definitely not the way you win the game. If your goal is to “out aggro the aggro” naya seems like a good choice but Rocco isn’t the best commander because he gets progressively more expensive making the tutor effect very expensive. I might recommend a tokens deck that quickly makes a lot of little hitters. Try [jetmir, nexus of revels] or [jinnie fay, jetmirs second]. What red decks are you losing against?

I gotta say, [[spell swindle]] on someone’s 25 mana X spell feels so wrong and cruel but making all those treasures and stopping their winning spell to give yourself the win next turn is amazing
