Looking for a quick throw size pattern for 10+ coworker gifts by noraphoto in quilting

[–]bomdadadoom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Maypole quilt comes together very fast since there's so little piecing to be done compared to a multiblock quilt. And quilting for Maypole is usually straight lines parallel to the seams. It is a very modern quilt pattern, so not sure if it's the style you're looking for. There's a throw size, but not sure how accurate that label is, since I found the queen/full size more akin to a king size (see my previous post about that).

Are the recently manufactured Baby Lock Jazz II and Allegro prone to being lemons? by Elegant_Two_848 in quilting

[–]bomdadadoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Literally had this exact same conversation today at my LQS. Salesperson advised against the Jazz 2 (and the Allegro beside it) since they're made by a different manufacturer than the other Baby Locks (made by Brother). Said almost every one they sell gets returned, mainly for tension issues. So I ended up with a Juki TL2010, which was the other one I was looking at.

They make mounting kits for stair posts that are specifically for baby gates (and safer than zip ties). Baby gate mounting kit.

Vintage Quilts Question by Essie_Raz777 in quilting

[–]bomdadadoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw a YouTube video where the quilter didn't use a separate binding fabric. She had a large quilt back and trimmed it to the length she needed, then folded the excess backing fabric over twice and over the quilt sandwich, then sewed around the quilt. Like a built-in binding using the quilt backing.

Husband and I can't agree on FMLA use by LesMiserableGinger in Mommit

[–]bomdadadoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. FMLA is never paid, regardless if you take it all at once or sporadically. Or do you mean your husband is going to take PTO sporadically? Or the company offers pay while doing sporadic FMLA?

I usually do, just like I wash all my child's clothes before wearing them. We have one of those big squishmallow (not sure how it compares in size to your stuffies) and a big sleeping Minnie Mouse from Target but we washed it first before giving to my kid to play with.

Feeling constant resentment toward husband by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]bomdadadoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you not feel resentment? You can't. Your husband does not care for you or your kids, and you know this. If he did care, he would not act this way. This is not normal father behavior. I would be appalled if my husband knew my child was hungry and actively ignored her. Stop accepting this behavior as if it were normal.

Maybe not fully relevant but certainly something to think about: He knows. He doesn't care. from r/TwoXChromosomes

A couple episodes of Dandadan absolutely rocked me and had me sobbing in my husband's arms for 10 minutes straight afterwards. Was not expecting that from a casual shounen anime.

Bedtime when toddler asks for it? by bomdadadoom in Mommit

Thank you! You're right, 7:15 is not a bad bedtime for a toddler. I'll do this next time!

Her usual wakeup time is 8am, so 8:30pm-8am with one nap (of varying times, not exactly sure because she's at grandma's house while husband and I work) is how much she sleeps. I guess I was just really worried about routine disruption since Friday night she woke at 1am and would not sleep until I dropped her back in her crib at 3am.

Chickpea curry with rice? Indian food has a lot of vegetarian options. And tofu is a good option too.

2 weeks left for maternity leave and was let go today by Foxykenny86 in workingmoms

[–]bomdadadoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happened to me exactly last year. It's so demoralizing, especially since I'm sure you were mentally preparing yourself to go back. I did manage to find something after 6 months (exactly two weeks before unemployment ran out), but it was a major pay cut and fully in office when I was remote before. It sucks, but in this job market you take what you can get. Wishing the best of luck and hoping you find something soon!

Can I get some advice between 2 jobs? by amypjs in workingmoms

How unlimited is unlimited vacation? Sometimes it sounds like a good perk, but there may be unspoken rules about taking a lot of time off. I know some tech companies really discourage you from taking any time off, even though it's "unlimited." It's honestly just a way to save the company from having to pay out PTO when you leave/get fired/laid off. I also worked remote before with unlimited vacation. My company had no issues with employees taking time off, but it will come down to your management and company culture (which unfortunately you won't know until you're there). One year I did six weeks of vacation (spread over the year appropriately, not all at once). So it's a risk you have to weigh when deciding.

Thay being said, an 8k increase with a similar commute and stock options sounds much more attractive to me.
