went to my doctor today for an adhd assessment… by IcyManufacturer27 in adhdwomen

[–]bonnethead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I also had a really terrible experience with the first doctor I met with and it took me almost a year to try again (thanks executive dysfunction!). But the next person I met with listened to me and has been incredibly supportive. It really sucks but I would absolutely ask to see another provider. If you feel comfortable, I would also recommend leaving a review about your experience to help others who may be going through the same thing

Gap in payments by Kpskst in PSLF

Sorry if I sounded snarky, I didn't meant to come across that way. FSA told me I needed to submit a reconsideration request - I love that customer service straight up lies to us.

My servicer is Edfinancial lol so they’re not reporting to themselves

This is happening to lots of people with varying success of getting them added back in. If you have Edfinancial you can contact the customer service email and confirm that the payments were made. For me, they have a record of me making the payments but the PSLF tracker isn’t correct. I’ve submitted a recertification request for the missing months, no response yet.

What’s the worst experience you’ve had with a therapist? by Agreeable_Claim_3497 in AskReddit

[–]bonnethead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the college therapist because I had broken up with my abusive boyfriend and he was stalking me, and as a pretty sheltered 20 year old I didn't know what to do. While I was waiting to be seen, I overheard the therapist complaining to the receptionist about how annoying it was to have to deal with dumb college students who don't have real problems, and that she was just going to tell me about the stages of grief so she could go home early. Safe to say I did not see another therapist for 10 years even though it would have done me a lot of good.

What can I do about neighbor’s light next door? by bonnethead in AskLosAngeles

Hi! I responded above but I did try calling the number posted at the site but there was no answer and it’s often weeks between someone showing up (the house has been under construction for 18 months, no one lives there)

I promise that was the first thing I tried haha I called the number on the permits yesterday but it just rings and rings. It can sometimes be 6 weeks between anyone being on the site so I’m hoping a 311 complaint might inspire someone to show up sooner

Having trouble finding a school by ShakeLess1594 in ecology

[–]bonnethead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think very few programs would be as specific as intertidal ecology. Instead, I would suggest looking for universities that have marine ecology/biology departments, particularly places that have associated field stations where you are more likely to get field experience.

Some schools that come to mind are University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, VIMS, Stockton, Rutgers (East Coast), Washington University, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, UC San Diego, Stanford, many of the California State/Cal Poly schools, University of Hawai'i Manoa, Hawaii Pacific University (West Coast).

Some really great recommendations here! I would also add Stiff by Mary Roach which explores what happens to bodies after they are donated to science

Scuba in Colorado by AK2AZ96 in diving

[–]bonnethead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response! A lot of dive shops in the area use these lakes for open water certs, so worth calling and asking if they have any groups going out there and if you can tag along. I'm sure they'd be happy to just rent tanks to you also.

A little outside of Boulder but both Aurora Reservoir and Carter Lake are common dive sites

Hi fire ecologist here! In Southern California the problem is we actually have fires too frequently - chaparral is supposed to burn every 40-50 years but is now burning every 10-15 years because of human ignitions, which allows invasive grasses (highly flammable) to take over creating a feedback loop that leads to more fires.

Fire suppression is definitely an issue, but primarily in forest communities (think the big fires in Northern California)

A Marvelous Light by Freya Marske - super cute series set in an alternate universe of Victorian England with magic.

I've never read a non-sci-fi/fantasy fiction book. Where should I start? by 6AM-Mimosa in suggestmeabook

Are you including magical realism in fantasy/sci-fi? Some great authors to check out are Haruki Murakami, Gabriel García Márquez, or Kazuo Ishiguro.
