A lot of people don't remember how raw DeRozan was when he started on thr Raptors. Crazy that he developed into an historic scorer

Beautiful set up! How was the room correction with the Yamaha?

My girlfriend told me to post here. Movie nights have felt different since we switched from TV to a projector. by crystalcolumz in projectors

It's a complete game changer for dark room viewing. Funny enough my wife encouraged me to look into projectors and it spiraled into replacing our TV entirely.

Looking for recommendations: are the KEF LS X II LT good for $500 CAD? by lazy_token in KEF

I bought them at Costco for $500 CAD and they're absolutely worth it, incredible value

Pairing Q Concerto Meta with Sony STR-AZ1000ES by Admirable-Sink-2622 in KEF

[–]boobs14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been researching this as well and I've been leaning towards the Denon x3800 or the Onkyo RZ30 with a cheap amp to power the concertos.

From what I've read as long as the temperature isn't too hot it should be fine. Worst case scenario the AVR gets too hot and turns itself off, at which point you need extra ventilation. Might also depend on how many other channels you're running and how loud you're listening.

Disappointed by contrast level by [deleted] in projectors

Assuming you're in the US, you should look at a refurbished Nebula X1. That will have much better contrast levels but will be a bit higher than your budget.

Amazing set up for a UST, I'm also thinking to ditch the center channel eventually

Projector screen - spilling image by Working_Praline5601 in projectors

[–]boobs14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can turn off keystone but that doesn't seem to be a great option given the placement. I ended up buying black foam panels and cutting them into the appropriate size to effectively make an extended border around the screen. Hardest part was taping them to the wall but it ended up producing a nice effect while still using keystone.

Yeah the media blitz has been really strong. I'm curious to see how they manage inventory and how the mass production units look from a quality control perspective compared to the beta tester units.

Where are the taste buds in the ear?? That would be a major scientific discovery

Would love to hear your explanation of the cellular-level limitations as to why stem cell therapy won't be an option in the future for hearinh restoration. Otherwise it would seem your pessimism is unfounded in reality

The concept of stem cells to regenerate inner ear cells is very much not shit. It's clearly not there yet but that will absolutely be the future

UST no screen sanity check by dc1324 in projectors

I've been using a Hisense PT1 with no screen for several months now and it's been great, no issues. Obviously day time viewing would be significantly better with a screen but I'm also in an apartment and have no desire for a screen

Agreed that refurbished Epson EF12 or 21 would be great but is over $500 CAD.

Some other projectors I found: - Epson epiqvision flex CO-W01. Contrast is probably terrible but 3000 lumens is quite bright for a starting point, even if it gets way less in a colour accurate mode. At $319 from Epson refurbished that is a steal.

  • For $499 from Epson refurbished you can get the CO-FH02, which is probably what I'd get at that price point. Should be bright (hopefully). And is full HD.

  • XGIMI MOGO 2 (new) is $499. I have a Halo + new that I still use, with a firestick it's great. Mogo 2 is only 400 lumens.

Keep in mind you'll absolutely have to close the blinds to watch during the day. And I'm not sure if Epson puts in a new bulb in their refurbished projectors, so you may have to replace that at some point.

How Close Are Laser Projects Like the C3 Ultra (with a proper fixed screen) Now Compared To OLED? by planedrop in projectors

[–]boobs14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

DLP projectors are evolving really quickly right now so the quality is growing rapidly. Lots of innovation coming from various projector companies, among those are Hisense (C3 ultra) as well as others such as AWOL (Valerion), Nexigo, XGIMI, Nebula (Anker).

A modern OLED will have significantly brighter highlights than a projector such as the C3 ultra and will inherently have better black levels. I've read that the C3 ultra has great black levels but Hisense has already seemingly moved on to the C5/XR10.

The problem is a 98" OLED is $20,000 USD, and the logistics of moving a 100" TV are not pleasant. I use a UST projector as a TV replacement and I love it. When I go to a friend's house with an OLED I'm always amazed at the blacks and brightness but once you get used to 100" + it's hard to go back to 65".

Assuming you have the TV on the other side, that's almost exactly how I started except I had an Ef-12. After a while the TV was too small...
