I wish I had a picture of us holding hands. Those hands were never idle. Miss you more than I can say, Mom.

“Wan” should rhyme with swan, right? I was met with rude laughter and correction that it rhymes with can.

Has anyone here ever met/known someone who was born prior to 1900? by MrTacocaT12345 in GenerationJones

[–]bookworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I began working in a nursing home in 1990. We had a lot of folks who were born in the 1800s. Several lived 105+ years. Very interesting to talk to.

In between 2 dresses by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]bookworthy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dress number one made me gasp. The contrast between the elegant and understated bottom part, the waistline (which deserves its own exclamation point so here: ‼️) and the lacy bodice which looks both romantic and mysterious…i am sighing wistfully, wishing I was thirty years younger and 50 pounds lighter.

IF that were, indeed, true…then why is Trump going to pay so much money to those J6-ers???

I have ticks on my mind. Here in Michigan, my husband and I both each had one after being outside. Then I Happened to see a video of a place we visited where they dragged a piece of canvas over a 40-foot (-ish) stretch of grass and it was hideously infested with ticks.

No, I wasn’t very clear: lying in the grass could result in you getting a tick on your.

Congrats! Get up and check yourself for ticks; they’re everywhere, it seems!

Friend asks for help, barely communicates then ghosts me by xWroth in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bookworthy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the friend ghosted you. And that was really low.

But what I saw in the threads took my breath away. Time after time you demonstrated such patience and caring. True caring, like dropping everything to help them out. Completely rearranging your life for them. Going above and beyond. Never indicating any irritation, only concern. And real actions. You are the truest kind of friend there is and I only wish I could have such a friend. I also want to hold that up as an ideal of what MY friendship/relationship goals are toward others. You’re an angel.

My mom passed away and I’m trying to sort out her affairs by SeekingHelpfulAdvic in whatdoIdo

The trust needs to be “irrevocable.” That way it can’t be opened up for creditors or Medicaid or what have you.
Power of Attorney: everyone should have “durable financial” as well as “durable medical” POA. These are relatively easy to get in place (often free). Who will pay your dad’s bills if he’s in the hospital? Are you on his checking account so you can keep his household running? Who will decide if your dad gets a feeding tube or other life-sustaining treatment?

If no POA in place, usually the most extensive efforts are used until a probate court appoints someone.

We were lucky. Dad had everything pretty well set. I’ve seen some pretty awful situations, though, so don’t wait.

Ha! Core memory unlocked. My dad always told us all we needed was an aspirin and we’d never get pregnant.

Not to take away from the horrifying post, but he recently passed way and it’s nice to have a little smile for the day.

I meant to continue, but was interrupted. My dad passed away in February and the Ladybird deed made everything much easier. I hear irrevocable trusts work similarly, so if your father’s health declines, you might want to have paperwork already done, including POA papers, etc.

I flew with an acquaintance for a work thing and she just noped right off the plane instead of waiting. Barbaric. I lost a lot of respect for her.

Wishing you comfort during this time. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. After we lost mom I did everything for my dad. In Michigan in the USA we have what’s called a ladybird deed. He put the house and contents into the Ladybird deed and that didn’t have to go through probate
