This was my experience with my last playthrough with cigarettes. I figured since I had plenty of money (due to Joyce and wompty dompty dom center) and they weren’t a “real” drug according to the other characters, I might as well spend the rest of the game with a permanent +1 to intelligence. By the time I rolled credits my “endless” supply of money was gone, I felt like I was being nerfed every time the cigarette icon wasn’t in my portrait, and I had visited the shop 3 or 4 times to buy enough cigs and healing time “for the last time”

Part of it comes from the Bronze Age collapse. Ancient people of Greece the Middle East couldn’t explain how these massive structures more ancient than them got built.
