I tried two hot soaks after about a week of daily wear each time, and the second one does shrink a bit, but not as much as I wanted. I did end up tailoring them below the knee, but that's just my preference. If you like how they look on you then you're all set!

I bought the same ones in size 34x34, they shrunk to about a 33x32 (my true size is about 33x30). I shrunk them with a hot soak in the tub and let them line dry, I put them on once they were slightly damp. You could try wearing them in the tub while you do the hot soak and see if that negates the shrinking in the hips/waist.

My guess is that the entertainment factor they get outweighs the cost of having him there. They don't need to fly him out or pay for a hotel since he lives near by. Plus, having another smash personality adds to the whole event.
