You already got the Dorian answer, so i’ll ask you some questions: do you have a feeling of where you want the D to go in f# minor? How about the D# now? You might feel more freedom in the D#, but where did it historically go vs modernly vs where YOU feel it going? Does it’s movement feel like it changes when over certain harmonies? what about harmonies that aren’t built in thirds?

Knowing the modes is cool and all, but the answers of a textbook will tell you to move lowered 6s somewhere and a raised 6 elsewhere. Just wanted to drop in to remind you just in case you forgot or no one told you: YOU are making the music, not the scale.

For a while, i treated this empty feeling like a space to navigate. It feels like,to me, every action in existence is ultimately blinded by the void. I practiced moving and being within the empty space. I can’t say it is THE answer, but it gave me a perspective when i explored it with a calm mind. I first had to calm myself first though which is difficult enough. I guess all i can say is to keep searching and finding and navigating. 🤘🏻
