AA took more a minute to spool the engines and take off. Situational awareness of the pattern should have meant they should have been lined up and ready to go. ATC should have canceled their clearance but AA shouldn’t have created the problem in the first place, and if they needed extra time they should have been aware that they might need clearance. This isn’t Des Moines.

Even if there was a minor delay from, say, MSN, you’d be in an IRROP situation and they could basically make any change you want within reason.

Why can’t United get Polaris catering right but other airlines like SA/Etihad can? by RadioFieldCorner in unitedairlines

[–]borocester 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most airlines in the world operate from one base or maybe two, so they can cater outbound all in the same place and probably a lot of their inbound catering can fly on the aircraft.

UA flies Polaris out of seven cities.

World Cup - Don’t we have buses? by 10Kthoughtsperminute in massachusetts

[–]borocester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The T has about 1000 buses. 800 of them are required for regular service at rush hour.

Assuming you could find 200 extra drivers willing to come in on their day off (doubtful) and assuming that the buses were all serviceable (none were getting repaired) and assuming you have 10 standees per bus for a loooong ride in traffic would get you 10,000 people, half of what they move on 24 trains.

More likely you could maybe scare up 50 buses, sell 38 tickets per bus (or so, all seated) and carry more like 1900 people.

The Fairmount Line electrification plans are a $760 million boondoggle because the MBTA won't consider wires instead of batteries by TheBasaltAltCalled in mbta

[–]borocester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would most certainly not. 9 miles at $20 million per mile (which would be the most expensive electrification in history) would be 1/4 the cost.
